Once in a while when riding from home I will forget my pepper spray for dogs. I feel naked without it.
I took my first ride just last night, just kind of an impromptu thing, and amazingly I forgot nothing! Remembered to fill my water bottle, get my dogtags, my HRM, my cell phone, EVERYTHING!
Probably jinxed myself for the rest of the year!

I guess I do too. I didn't actually forget the computer, I searched for considerable time in the dark looking for it because I knew I forgot nothing, but then alas I gave up because I felt I was being too anal about stats. :notamused:

Water, not like it mattered it was so darn cold out it prob would have froze anyway
I ride regularly year round, and have done for more than 10 years. My last ride of last year was on December 31, my first ride of this year was January 3rd. I don't recall forgetting anything on the January 3rd ride.

Beat you! My first ride of the year was on 1st January at 10:00 AM...and I didn't forget anything. It has been such a mild winter here that I could have forgotten one layer of clothing and still would have been fine.
Quite often I do ride on January 1 ... I'm trying to remember why we didn't this year, and I'm thinking we might have gone somewhere. So the thing I've apparently forgotten is what we did on the first 2 days of the year when we should have been riding. :D

Gloves. Although on a recumbent you really don't need gloves except for better grip on the shifters. (All of mine use Grip-Shift.) For me, no gloves is only a problem on hot sweaty days.

I forgot it was winter. Titania has been on holiday this year and her stand-in didn't really have her heart in the job of siting in the ice throne.

I forgot my legs. Hadn't one any training over the winter and 10 miles wore me out.

I forgot how wonderful it feels to be back on a bike. :)
I also forgot my water bottle, but it didn't matter because it was only a short ride.

Now I remember ... it was VERY hot then so we opted to do other things on those two days, including swimming ...

I presume that you're asking from the point of those who for whatever reason don't ride year round. I'm lucky enough to live where I can ride year round so other than actually riding on Jan 1st there really isn't anything any different from my "last" ride of the year and my "first" ride of the year.
Very little changes, and nothing is (usually) forgotten.

Perhaps you killed a few too many brain cells 31 Dec and 01 Jan to remember what all you did?

There were quite heavy winds on the first ride of the year -- on 2 January -- and I had forgotten that a bike with just six gears might not be the best choice against a stormy headwind.

Beat YOU! 8:15AM, out the door...to ride to work; DAMN. WOULD have ridden the annual Chilly Challenge if I was off work that day, out the door about noon for that.
Just like every ride, I forget that I'm a somewhat arthritic 53-y-o when I start pedaling.

yeah, I used to ride year, now I don't, so I had a maiden voyage the other nite. I know there are many year rounders here, but this time of year we start to see the maiden voyage posts ...

I forget that I am no longer as young as I was the year before.

Since we are now getting flexible with the forgotten items:
I forgot my worries, my troubles, my lousy 2011, my stress, my arthritis, my injuries, and what little negativity I occasionally harbor... It was a great Jan 4 and this year has me stoked about cycling and all the things I can shed on all the beautiful miles I will travel. Yeah cycling!!

My last ride in 2011 was on December 30th and first ride of 2012 on January 3rd. The extra day of slacking wasn't enough for me to forget anything.
