I took many closeup pics of my g/f's new early Christmas present - a 2005 Trek 7200. In case you want to lust after one the pics are located here (http://photobucket.com/albums/v282/Raman/Trek/7200/)

I saw the bike. When they are new, unridden, un-scraped, un-dirtied, un-rusty, O-la-la!

Zey are so SEXY, n'est-ce pas?

Here's to thousands of miles!

I Looked at a 7100 at an LBS but was told front racks couldn't be installed on it so the factory recommended a 7200
I haven't found one locally to look at , does yours have a method for mounting the racks?, NOT using U-bolts?

I'm not sure as I haven't ever mounted racks. However, the 7200 does have what looks like holes for bolts on the fork.

I would think that your LBS would know without having to be told??? Can't you just grab a front rack and put it up to the 7100 and 7200 and see if the attachment points are there? I thought the 7100 and 7200 had the same forks anyway.. Maybe it's something to do with suspension forks in general? I dunno.

I just did a search and performancebike has the attached front pannier rack. It looks like you put bolts in on the bottom near the axle and then some distance above with another type of (u?) bolt. I'm not sure I've seen a bike that comes with attachments 1/2 way up the fork blade. But then again I haven't seen many bikes.

LBS has lost 3 of its employees, and a new hire obviously didn't know what could and what could not.... Owner was bizy on a fone forever it seemed so I left. Mailed TREK factory and was told , same day,7100 could not have racks attached using a U-Bolt. They suggested a 7200 instead
I don't particularly like the owners attitude, so will buy the bike elsewhere
