Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Selling some bikes

... but not all of them!

I've been considering selling some bikes for a while. My neck issue is limiting what I can ride. If I sell the three I've posted I'll still have my recumbent and my single-speed.

The decision came last night after I finished my taxes and looked at what I owed the IRS. :eek: :twitchy: :mad: :notamused:

I'm not posting what I'm selling here because this is the wrong forum for it, and I'm only selling locally.

Has anyone else ever cut there fleet in half or more?

Yup just did, I sold two of my bikes, you can really only ride one anyways. I am done to my mountain bike and my road bike. The money back in my pocket was nice but I know I have an illness because I can't stop looking online at what my next bike will be in a few years:)

Yeah. I haven't sold a thing yet, let alone paid my tax bill, but I'm already dreaming of building a recumbent fleet. :)

I'm downsizing as well but for different reasons. I just sold off two of my old mountain bikes and eyeing getting rid of my trainer frame as well. The trainer frame is a true downsize(I'll now use my Surly cross check in the stand) but the two cannondale hardtails were to make room(and get some cash) for a new santa cruz carbon tallboy.

Yep. Not easy. Thankfully never had to sell out of financial need but for space. Had to unload 2/3, a Fuji Road (project bike) and my MTB, keeping only my Trek.

Grrr.... It looks like I'll easily sell the wheelset, dynohub, lights, and front rack that I listed separately. The bikes don't have any takers yet. If that's the way it's going to work, I won't have enough money, and I won't have a dyno-hub system anymore. :(

I just saw your ads yesterday. I live on the north side of Cincinnati, but I peruse the Lexington and Louisville CL ads sometimes. I clicked on the link to your blog, and thought, "hey, small world."

Anyways, good luck selling them. I've noticed that prices have almost doubled on CL, due to this summer-like weather we've been having.

I have enough room. Also, I really can't get anywhere near what I paid for the good bikes, and the beater bikes have little invested in them.
Selling them unless I need room is OK for me. I did at one time think about trading a good bike in when buying a new one. But there's nothing wrong with the old bike and I'll never again get one that nice for what I paid for it. A bike shop owner finally convinced me to keep it. He was right.

I end up using the old bikes anyway. If they sit for years the only thing they will need is tires.

I frequently flip bikes. I pick up neglected but decent bikes from yard sales and off Craig's List then clean, service and repair as neccesary. I ride them for a while. The more I like them the longer they hang around. My favorite few take up permanent residence, the rest I sell, usually at a profit of $50 to $100 depending on the bike and what I had to put into it. I've had a few that I was sorry to see go, but I can't keep them all. It's kind of a rotating N+1 system.

The ordeal is over. I sold:
My beloved Surly LHT
Dahon folding bike
New wheelset for LHT with dyno-hub
Front rack
Acorn handlebar bag
Assorted tires

I didn't sell, and have decided to keep:
Surly Big Dummy
Dyno-wheel and lights that are on the single-speed

Never were for sale:
Recumbent
Single-speed

With the money I got and what I can come up with by April 17th, I'm good. Selling the LHT hurt. :(

Hmmm.... Maybe you can trade with someone who had too big of a bike. :thumb:

Then again, maybe you won't need to. Your torso didn't change, just your legs. Remove the pedal extenders, raise the saddle, and give it a whirl... once you can ride anyway.
