Hey guys... so i got abit of money for xmas and ive decided i need some pads because as much as i love a good scars, im starting to get sick of them and they will give me added confidence to go big i think, at the moment i arent doing anything crazy, started getting into bowls and stuff, and ive been jumping maybe 3 feet out of them and pulling on handers (did my first on Xmas day) YAY! And starting to go bigger with my drops... did a 4 foot to flat on Xmas eve, and i arent holding back anymore.....

SOOOOO.. I need some pads, i definatly want Shin guards and knee guards because pedals hurt! and on my arms, i dont mind just having elbow guards, but forearm guards is always a plus!

The problem i have is im on a pretty tight budget for the 2 sets, £50 for them both... can stretch maybe an extra £10 if need be Can anybidy suggest a nice set of forearm pads, and i nice set of leg pads please?

i was looking at the soft padded ones by 661, they look nice, but not sure about the cushioning, should i go with hard plastic or the soft padding?

help me decide please!

Thx

Merry Xmas all

Lee

I have ROACH shin gaurds and they are awesome, I can only imagine that the elbow gaurds would be as comfortable. Got my pads from jenson for about 60 DEF worth the money.

call me crazy but when i was into drops i would use the the stuff i got from Tae Kwon Doe. We spared int here and you got a whole set of stuff for 80 bucks, 80 included helmet and chest pad thing which i doubt you will be using. I used the knee guards and elbow whatnots, if your on a budjet it might not be a bad idea plus it goes under clothing. It saved me from a few falls and plenty of kicks :)

I also recommend Roach shin/knee pads......as for elbow, you really dont need them, at least they annoy me. You could afford both though it sounds like since you have around $90....Id go Roach.....or Race Face as theyre now called.

I agree with DJ rider. My TKD solution is only on those on a super budjet :)

Thx guys

So DJRider do you wear any protection on your arms?

What do you guys think of just a set of elbow Guards? maybe from Six Six one, or a set of soft ones to stop scrapes..

I usually dont, but Ive wrecked on rocks many times on my arms....lucky I havent broken it. Ive had it look like I had two elbows I hit it so bad, also smashed into a tree and was all cut up. Due to my new confidence I found I had when I wore armor, my moms going to be nice, and for a late Xmas present get me a Dianese suit....full or just half.

Normally I agree, but after taking a chip out of my elbow I plan on wearing elbow pads now.

So its the Roach Pads, and then possibly a set of elbow pads, not the forearm pads though?

DjRider04

Yeah....hitting your elbow hard can wreck you, and make your steering sloppy. My friend that broke his arm this past summer at a pre-ride was lucky enough to be wearing armor. His arm had a VERY nasty break with the 661 upper armor on....doc said if he didnt have it, his arm would have shattered instead of just a break. He would have been out much longer....and wouldnt have be able to race anymore that season....

I just gotta figure out which Dianese suit I want :D

OK, sorry to be off topic, but it is sort of important, my brother also got some money for xmas, and he wants to buy a set of six six one knee and shin guard pads, and a six six one full face helmet, he only does a bit of dirt jumping, some cross country, abit of street and thr bowls at the local skatepark, he doesnt do anything huge, but he wants a full faced helmet, ive told him there isnt much point, and he should buy either a Six six one dirt lid or a Mullet, and then buy some DMR v8 pedals instead with the money he saves, what would you guys do in this situation?

ok, so DJ rider, youve now changed your mind and think i should get the forearm pads? but you said they werent very comfortable.... is it worth the sacrifice for the forearm pads aswell then?

I havent changed my mind...I wouldnt wear seperate forearm/elbow pads, ive never liked them. If you think you need them, go for it.....its all opinion.

As for your bro, let him get what he wants. Does he need pedals? If he wants to look like a dummy, let him look like a dummy.....or maybe he'll just progress enough to actually need a FF.

Have a great Xmas all....

Yes they are... out of my price range lol... So i have a choice... i either buy the previous Roach ones, or i buy those but no elbow guards... or i can buy a set of Six six one ones like these..

It all comes down to what type of riding you do, I ot the ROACHes because I have some VICIOUS pedals. I am in the same boat for the elbow pads, never really needed them, all of my boo-boo's are on my palms or leg/knee/shin. If I where you Id get the roach leg armor, and then get 661 veggie wraps, protective, but not overly protective like the roach, but its up to you.

As for your bro, I am getting a full face aswell, I am not a downhiller, but a freeride with an XC bike, the drops and things I do arent to hellacious, but I always have that fear of smaking my jaw onto concrete, Id rather look goofy witha a helmet thatn goofy with facial disfigurment for the rest of my life.

I wear LizardSkinz & 661 forearm/elbow pads. Both work well.... Pricepoint.com is where I bought them about a year ago.

It could just be me, but I don't like wearing armor period.

You do wear a helmet don't you? That's armor....

Ok Guys! Got my pads 2 days ago! And i decided i may aswell buy the best rather than buy pads i didnt like! So i went to my LBS and purchased a set of Dianese Knee and shin guards, and a set of Dianese Elbow and forearm guards.... VERY nice, look nice, feel really light, really flexible, you forget you've got them on! i couldnt ask for a better set of pads..
