If he stays with a French lady, er, excuse me, Mlle., I'd say a Look possibly. He said he has that nice looking C&V Klein he just got, so I don't think he is under time pressure. Hard to say past this thought.

Come away from the Run of the mill big names. Look to Colnago-Cervelo-Pinarello-BMC-Orbea-Etc. As a price to spec comparison they may be a bit pricier but as several of us have found out they do give a better ride. May even have to look at Aluminium to keep within price restraints but if you can ride the Klein- you can take the gentler ride of a well designed double butted ally frame with ease.

And it is great to be riding a bike that has the name that others only dream of--Even if it has to be one of the fantastic basic models.

I do love my BMC. Part of Switzerland is Francophone after all, (Though I tend to think of mine as Teutonic - Heidi maybe?)

+1.

My Colnago is not their most expensive model. In fact, it is the only HM carbon model that has a compact/relaxed geometry and is the least expensive of their HM carbon bikes. But what a fantastic ride. Since I bought it, more people have come up to me and asked about my bike simply because it is a Colnago. No one ever came up to me and asked about my Defy. The MUP's that I ride at are over-crowded with Treks, Specialized, Giants and Cannondales. I have only seen three non-vintage Colnagos since buying mine and one belongs to the guy at the bike shop where mine was purchased. Another big plus is that it won't be too hard to find if it were ever stolen.

I was in my local wallyworld tonight, didn't see anything that I thought would qualify. :)
