First time I've posted here in the regional discussions. Hopefully some of you will know the places I'm talking about.
I just got my box of bike goodies in the mail today, and after installing the new saddle, headlight and taillight I think my old Peugeot is ready.
I used the bike to commute occasionally up the Silver Strand bike path from Imperial Beach to Coronado - work was about a 9 mile ride from my last residence, but it was almost always windy next to the ocean and either too cold or too hot, so I usually just took the car.
After buying a house and getting settled in, and starting to pay attention to how much I was actually spending every month on gas, I wanted to start riding down to the (free) commuter ferry in downtown San Diego, but I had my bike set up with only a front brake, and there are a lot of hills between City Heights and there. It's 6.5 miles to the ferry and another 3 or 4 once I get off. The singlespeed setup and fairly steep gearing will either make me more of a man, or will make me walk up a few hills :D
Anyone else here taking this ferry on a regular basis?
