Hi Everyone,
We have found ourselves short some drivers and cyclists or someone wanting to do both. Interested? Contact: Tweissgerber@Team-Will.org
- The trip expenses, door to door is fully paid, but you will need to raise $2200-$2850 depending if you are a driver or cyclist.
- Each shift covers 130 miles within 8 hours then jumps forwards 260 miles for the next day’s ride.
Our Cause:
This summer, Team-Will will be embarking on our fourth coast-to-coast bicycle event, with shifts of cyclists on the road 24 hours a day for ten consecutive days, advocating for the fight against childhood cancer. We are partnered with the Foundation for Children with Cancer, and funds we raise will be directed to families coping with the financial strain of childhood cancer, so families can focus their energies on their children’s treatment. The cyclists and support teams dedicated to this effort are passionate about making a difference for children battling cancer and the families who support them every day.
Some Quick Facts
- The ride begins in San Francisco on June 24 and finishes in Boston on July 3.
- 3 shifts will cover a total of >3600 miles, riding through 16 states, visiting 23 hospitals and participating in community rallies.
- The riders are fully supported by volunteer drivers who help keep the cyclists hydrated, fed, and guild them safely cross the country.
- In 2010, the team raised ~$125,000 and distributed 4,000 handmade cards to kids in the hospitals. (See http://sites.google.com/site/teamwillcardsforkids/ for more information or to participate.)
- 12,400 children a year in the USA are newly diagnosed with cancer, one in four will die
- 34 children or one full classroom every day are given the cancer message
