Busted weekend but always worth it to ride. :D
Always!
Glad you guys got a bit of riding in.
I didn't get out Saturday, which was a shame. Spent about 4 hours in the back yard weeding and pulling out friggin' crabgrass (and have the sore hamstrings to prove that crouching for that long isn't a good thing, and apartments aren't such a bad idea!), then with grocery shopping and cooking for a dinner party Saturday night, didn't get out in the fantastic weather. Very bummed about that...
I did get out for a good ride on Sunday. Left my place near Cherry Creek Reservoir at about 815am, rode through the park and down Jordan Rd to Parker, met a friend then rode 470 trail to Chatfield, out the South entrance of Chatfield, then back through the park and up the Platte trail to Littleton. 54 miles total. It was quite cool to start, but once I got to Parker I was pretty comfortable in jersey/armwarmers/full gloves/tights.
Spent most of the afternoon drinking beerios and eating with a bunch of Aussie larikins... :D No ride for me today, unless it clears this afternoon - might drag myself out for a short 'recovery' ride.

Yes, I did about 25 miles and rode about 10 with Nora, pictured below. And that was about the number of other riders on the trails today. Some headwind! Will it ever stop?

I tell ya, this afternoon wind is really starting to get to me! I haven't been able to get out in the morning's when things are a bit calmer, so my afternoon rides down at Meridian have been all I can fit in. And every afternoon, I watch the breeze gradually pick up until it peaks right around when I start my ride!!! :(
I did a brief ride yesterday into Chatfield Res (climbed the dam, about 15 miles) and then today on the PRT. I decided to take several of the offshoot trails this morning that I'd never taken before - into downtown Littleton and the Big Dry Creek Trail into Englewood. I then rode further north to about Hampden. Total trip distance was about 25 miles and the wind wasn't really too bad - I was pleasantly surprised! The BUGS were the problem on this - and about the past 4 rides. I think I've swallowed about 5 so far... :(
I'm guessing riding from here on into the weekend is going to be minimal, at best. Oh well, at least we're hopefully putting a dent in our drought with all of the recent rain/snowfall.

edit: was replying to Stu's post.
Wind, Wind, Wind and RAIN!!!! I'm happy that we are getting the rain for the season, but a whole week of this. COME ON NOW!!!

Did 21 miles at Chatfiled today, and felt like 45. The head wind combined with the hill over the dam was a real challenge. I had the triple in the granny gear going over the top.
Last week I bought some cheap bibs from Nashbar ($29.95) and wore them today. I love them! They fit my "svelte" build wonderfully. I think I will never wear regular bike shorts again. Must order another bib!
coming up from ABQ on saturday. Think I'll ride on one of them cool looking Denver trails.

Glad you got out again, DnvrFox! I was planning a ride this afternoon, but looks like a few last minute meetings are going to run me out of time. Can't say I'm that disappointed... I think the wind (again...) would probably have talked me out of it by the time I walked to the car to unpack my bike. :(
There's always tomorrow. :D

I'm in search of an auto mechanic. I'll go anywhere in the metro area. I'm not looking to save money, but I do want to avoid being ripped off and I want someone who will do good quality, safe work.
And I want it done in the next two weeks so my jeep's good to roll on down to Santa Fe.
Any recommendations?
TIA!

Have you looked out the window lately?
And, I-25 is closed at Castle Rock due to numerous snow/ice accidents on Monument Hill

At least it looked like a few people got some new tires out of it :D.
Today is crap. Tomorrow looks like it'll be crap. Saturday? Forecast says it'll be mid 50s and partly cloudy, but being Colorado that forecast will change 20 times!
I just wanna ride in short sleeves again, damnit!!!! :D

Was that what closed I-25 at Castle Rock? I didn't hear the entire report and assumed it was snow and ice, given the weather and all.
Still, I did manage to WALK 5.5 miles today in this sub-freezing goo.

Drywall screws were yesterday morning, I-25 near 136th.
The truck driver who lost the box of screws was cool, though. He stopped and paid for towing and tire repair/replacement for everyone.

Yea, that is right where I live. I live at 136th and Huron. Thank God I was at work. New car and everything I would have been upset. But the guy was super cool for taking care of everyone.
Now, is this Denver or Seattle???? Whats up with the weather. I don't mind the rain but now its getting on my nerves. :(
LordOpie is getting ready to move to another state cause of all the rain. :)

The I-25 closure was an accident with 50 cars on Monument Hill, fog and ice.

(Radio just reported over a foot of snow in Boulder)
DENVER'S CLIMATE
Nothing about Denver is more misunderstood than the city's climate. Located just east of a high mountain barrier and a long distance from any moisture source, Denver has a mild, dry and arid climate. The city receives only 8-15 inches (20.3 - 38 cm) of precipitation a year (about the same as Los Angeles), and records 300 days of sunshine a year -- more annual hours of sun than San Diego or Miami Beach.
Winters are mild with an average daily high of 45 degrees Fahrenheit, 7 degrees Celsius in February, warmer than New York, Boston, Chicago or St. Louis. Snow does fall, but it usually melts in a short time. Golf courses remain open all year and have been played on as many as 30 days in January. Chinook winds (a wind blowing down from a mountain that gains heat as it loses elevation) can bring 60 degree F (16 degrees C) weather to Denver at any time throughout the winter.
In summer, dry relative humidity makes Denver feel cool and comfortable, offering natural air conditioning. Fall is a particularly delightful time to visit the city and make day excursions to the mountains to view the colorful changing of the aspens, an event that takes place from mid-September until mid-October.
Oh yes, I'm a native here and I love this state!!! I just got spoiled with the nice days so early in the season. I'm still crying though!! :)

I was just getting into the swing of warm, sunny riding too. I've got one more week in town before I'm back on the road again (maybe straight through until the end of September, with only weekends at home!) and was really looking forward to getting some weekday riding it. I think I'm just going to pull out all the cold weather gear again and ride anyway... :D
Just to add to what everyone else has said - BAH! :( Guess I should get the rollers out again...

I wouldn't call my ride today glorious, but it was better than not going for a ride! I just went down the road to Cherry Creek State Park. Got out of the driveway about 930am, and was riding happily until about 1115ish, when the wind really picked up. It was quite cold, and I couldn't really be bothered dealing with the headwind for my planned route, so I cut my ride short and rode home. All told, I covered about 33 miles.
Glad I went out this morning - the snow this afternoon would not have been fun to ride in!

We were walking 2-3 miles on the CC Trail about noonish next to the Kennedy Golf Course.
There were a lot of riders (especially roadies) out despite the freezing cold and winds. Brrr!! A bit cold for me to ride, although I could have, I guess. Wife wasn't too pleased about the prospect, however.
Glad you got out.

Come on guys what are you complaining about? It could be worse.
This is a quote from a friend in Cincinnati. "Still riding. Of course, with the crummy weather, I haven't been able to ride for almost two weeks, tomorrow is the Chili (Cincinnati Cycle Club Ride) and the
weather looks like it may clear up, but it will be windy. It's
either wet or windy, haven't seen much sunshine at all. Nasty spring."
In other parts of the the country (Ohio) its been like this all March and April with a lot more rain! So count your blessings!
I got 20 miles in today before the snow, 80 miles this week.
Kathi
GO Kathi!!! Looks like tomorrow is alittle warmer and drier. So I'm thinking RIDE!!!
No riding today other than the gym and it reminded me how much more I enjoyed the bike outside. Hope everyone had a great weekend, even with our weather.

Not in Parker yet.
Waiting with baited breath, although we did see a glimpse of a big yellowinsh object in the sky on our walk about an hour ago. What do you suppose that might be? Flying saucer? It was partially hidden behind a cloud.
Sorry everyone, there is some blue sky peeking through and the sun. Its wonderful!!! ME SO HAPPY!!!

I managed to get in a 31 mile ride this afternoon around Cherry Creek State Park. It was certainly cool, but I was very comfortable in tights, arm warmers and vest. Could have even done without the vest.
Might even convince myself to commute tomorrow... :D
Lordopie and I are riding today. YIPPIE, actually we are going to ride everyday this week, need to get ready for the Sante Fe Century. The sun is shining ALL IS WELL!!!
Damn it, still no sun down south. I can't even see the foothills. :(
Maybe tomorrow.

I DID IT!!! I DID IT!!!
Fellow Front Rangers! TheAnanlogKid is back!! After a lazy hiatus and saving some money, The Kid finally fixed his chain. This newbie even did all of the labor himself and had little trouble. (He even fit the chain just right). After an exhilarating test ride around his North Loveland (Colo.) apartment complex our subject had this to say:
"It's amazing how this bike rides. Even a basic new chain made the pedaling some much better, smoother, and fun. And it is so quiet now, I had to look down many times to see if the bike was even running. Look for me on the morning and afternoon commutes from now on!"
Afterwards The Kid let out a loud "WHOOOP!" with a fist held high, causing his loud neighbor to peek out her window in wonder. "This is a great day for a newbie. This is a great day for biking!" The Kid stated before going into the apartment for a celebratory beer and playoff basketball.
