Utility Cycling - New transport

Well, I pulled the trigger on a new trek transport today. Close out price of $999.00. I want to thank, those on the forum that answered my questions in a previous thread. I will pick it up tomorrow. since I have some fitting concerns due to motion limitations, the shop has promised to will help me get the proper fit.

I have had mine loaded with about 100 pounds of groceries. A little froggy at first but that was because I didn't balance the load. Pulled quite nicely after I made a slight adjustment.

The center stand the bike comes with could have a bit of a wider stance.

The biggest load I'll have to do is cat litter. That would be at least 80lbs of clay. :)

It will be so awesome to not "need" a car for that trip anymore.

You could probably put that on the upper rear rack with it hanging off on the sides like a set of saddlebags. Probably would be easier to carry that way. Otherwise, you might have to get two 40 pound bags or two 80 pound bags to even the load on the lower racks.

The biggest bay they sell is 40lb and I usually buy at least 2 at a time. Dang cats. hahaha

That works then. One on each side with a couple of bungee's would work just fine.

Well it came home to the house... Sorry no pictures. I am more impressed after getting a chance to ride it, the seat had to go but other than that I am very pleased. Only about 5miles so far. I will be getting another bag, I think that will help to balance the load.

Ride for a while before you buy another bag. I thought the exact same thing when I first got mine. Then, after riding a while, I found that it wasn't needed as bad as I thought it was. And I rarely use the one that I do have.

Wish I could post photos. Didn't have the camera with me. Keep in mind tat wasn't 100 on each side.....that would equate out to about 30 to 35 on each side rack and the rest on the upper rear rack with a few of the smaller items on the front rack.

And that's just an estimate of the load weight. It was just a usual trip to the grocery store that we usually make in the car. I just had to see if I could do it on the bike. The better half wasn't too pleased that I did it either. Seems that I forgot a lot of the stuff that she usually gets........go figure.....

She appreciated it. Although she REALLY enjoys doing the shopping herself. Some things are just better left alone.

Balancing the loads is a pretty easy task. Start small and work up to it......
