Commuting - Part (A) of a two part milestone! Yeah!

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well, this week is the first week that I've successfully commuted to work via bicycle all 5 days. Mostly I do 2 or 3 because of other family obligations, but since my truck was in the shop all week and I didn't really have a choice, I pedaled everyday. I was actually glad that the truck was in the shop because it gave me an excuse.
So that gets me to part A of a two part milestone (riding all 5 days) Part B is to hit 200 miles for the week.
Here's what I've got so far:
31 miles round trip X 5 days = 155 miles.
Only 45 miles left to knock out on Sat. and Sunday and I've done it. Pray for clear skies. :D Not too bad for a guy that just started riding in January 2002.

Well, I did it! :D Ended up with 205 miles for the week. Did 33 mile solo ride on Saturday and 17 mile interval ride today and broke the 200 mile barrier. Too bad, next week I'll probably be lucky to break 150 miles of riding. Got too many yucky business meetings to attend.

Congrats! That's a lot of miles. I imagine the weather was favorable most of the week.
I have a shorter commute and would never have that many miles of commuting in a week, although I've had over 225 in the summer when I ride after work and long weekend rides. It gives you a good feeling of confidence. Keep up the good work!!

For me, it's important to get in some long rides between the commutes. Some weeks I'll even take a rest day on a workday (and take the train) so I'll be OK to do a 60-miler on Saturday.
The long rides are a different kind of training, and no amount of shorter rides -- even 10 of them a week -- really prepare you for them. But if you do at least one a week, it seems to make you stronger for all your other rides.
This is the main reason I look forward to warm weather. I commute all year, but I can't seem to get up for the extra miles when it's cold and windy all week.

Purplehayes, I tip my hat to you, man! You are removing all the excuses I have!

200 miles in a week is very impressive, well done! I'm happy with 200kms/125miles most weeks, as I don't get to ride much on weekends.

I have done this also, the only problem for me is that by the time Saturday arrives my wife has made other plans for the day like, getting quotes or buying stuff for the new house. Being the push over I am, I will give in and spend the day with her which I enjoy also. It just means that I might not ride from Thursday until Monday, if I had planned a longer ride and taken Friday as a rest day. Thankfully I can ride all year round so there is always next weekend.:D
CHEERS.

Same here. I've managed one 5 day week so far, but as the weather improves here, 4 day weeks should be the exception not the norm.
I thought about cycling in today but storm forecast, it was 5 degrees, raining and windy. Took the bus instead.

Good for you! It's sometimes difficult to get in all five or so days commuting when there's other obligations. I only managed it a couple of times last year.
