How long can I expect my loaf of Wonder Bread to stay good? I've had it for about a month and a half now.
Thanks!
Jessica
Wonder Bread will stay 'fresh' for ever. there are acutal loaves from the 50's that are still around today and still fresh. :D

Frozen?: You're good to go!
Refrigerated?: Possibly still good....
In a breadbox?: Maybe....
Left out in the open?: Check for lotsa green stuff.
My loaves never last that long;).

Somebody wrote somewhere, that scientists estimated Twinkies last over 100 years.
I wonder who got the grant to build the Twinkie enviromental decay chamber.
And just what does a Twinkie enviromental decay chamber do?
Bombard it with simulated solar radiation and acid rain?
I wonder what a Twinkie would do subjected to the vacuum of space..hmmmmm.
Sorry, I never think of Wonderbread...but I do think about Twinkies, but not as food.

The better question: What would a deep fried Twinkie do in the vacuum of space?

Hmm, would Wonder Bread ever go bad? Isn't it some kind of "bread substitute" made for astronauts to be enjoyed with Tang? :D
Toss it and get something whole wheat.
I eat wheat, but come on POTATO BREAD people, Hwne my dad gets that. (which is very rare!) i eat about it in 4 days. Love the stuff.
Back to the question, where is it stored. What karldar said is pretty much what im too lazy to write.

As far as I know, Wonder Bread is just about as good when it's a day old, a week old, or a year old.
Throw it out.
:D
I had a cup of beyers yogurt on my shelf for 3.5 years, I tripled bagged it and threw it away last month, fearing that it would explode and wipe out my room.

Give it another year SBL, and you may have a new roommate.

[165], I do get lonely sometimes.
You guys, it's just in it's bag on my counter. Has been since day one. Here's the deal, it belonged to someone close to me who is now hospitalized, and I took this as a sign that his loaf of bread seems eternal.....he will get out of the hospital? Perhaps I just assign wayyy too much meaning to trivial life events. In any case, it's just crazy.
I think someone forgot to take their pills today

You shoulda said so!
Magic loaf in bag on counter: Also good to go!:D
After being opened, one loaf still tasted fine after several weeks. Another one had mold after 2 months. But unopened, I have no idea. I hope it's previous owner is okay.
You're assuming it was any good when you bought it!

That was Pillsbury's Space Food Sticks. Now, if SBL could find some of those from the 70s they'd still be fresh today. Guaranteed!

If it's symbollic bread, then shellac it to preserve its "health". Hope your friend gets better.
as a long time hippie.....just injest some of that mold on the bread and listen to some Jimi. You'll take a trip and never leave the farm. :)

Sorry, needs to be rye bread.
Rye ergotine poisoning was the medival St.Vitus dance.
Wildly uncontrolable spasms lasting days, and restricted blood circulation resulting in necrosis of the outer extremities.
Bad trip.

I guess as long as it's not moldy. I keep bread about two weeks, then moldy or not I feed it to the ducks!! Sometimes if I'm in a cooking mood I'll make bread pudding with it, that is if it's not moldy. Although what makes the best bread pudding is stale donuts or pastrys. Especially the kind with the jelly filling!!

Ok, don't eat the moldy rye bread. . .
eat the mushrooms instead. . . . (go ask alice)
or some cactus buttons. . . .

Rye ergotamine was the culpret in that one episode of the X-Files where Scully gets a tat with that guy she has a fling with. The red ink the guy gets his tat made with was from a batch of rye with ergot and made him hallucinate that his tat was talking to him (voiceover by Jodie Foster) and telling him to kill people. One of my favorite episodes....

Ugh, you guys are the greatest! Thanks for the laughs and the well-wishes....his condition greatly improving.
If my posts seem a little off lately, I have been eating magical toast. Musical good taste abounds on this board................except for the RUSH thread! ;) Alice? I think she'll know. (although I hear she's had a growth spurt)
Scully! Talk about a Hotttie! That was a great episode, and I didn't even about know the Jodie Foster voice over. That makes it killer! (pun intended, of course)
Cycleprincess, how does one go about making bread pudding? I love your sig, by the way.

I have a pretty good recipe for bread pudding. Here goes.
3 1/2 cups whole milk
3 eggs
3/4 cup sugar (less if you use stuff like donuts and pastries instead of bread)
1 teaspoon of vanilla and a bit less then 1/4 tsp of almond extract
Rasins if you like, or you can use dried cranberries too for a twist
About 4 cups of bread, donuts or other kind of pastries (day old or kind of stale work well too)
Thick cut french bread is good to use too. Just cube it up, generally about 4 cups, maybe less depending, just as long as it soaks up all the liquid and put it in a 9x13 buttered baking dish. Beat all the other ingredients together and pour it over the bread. Let it sit for a bit to soak up everything, and to make sure you have enough bread, you don't want it to look too soupy. Bake it at 325 for about an hour, and let it cool. Delish!! You can serve it with whipped cream, a whiskey sause (as long as no kiddos are eating it) or I have even made a lemon sauce which is good too. Either way...good stuff. Let me know if you make it...and if you like it!!
The sig...my friend brought me back a t-shirt from Utah that had that saying on the back...love it!! She totally gets me!

Finishing up the last of the loaf for toast as I type. Good as day one, this stuff is ultra-convenient!
Now, if I could only find Wonder Milk and Wonder Eggs.

I think the military has some kind of milk like that. Dunno about eggs...but do you REALLY want to ingest that stuff?
If the bread doesn't get stale, call it a miracle and put it on ebay. I bet you get as much as the lady who sold the cheese sandwich and said it had an image of the Virgin Mary.
;)
Goooooooooooooo Wonderbread! :)
