Hi Folks,

I would like to change a solid axle to a hollow, quick release axle. The rear hub has a seven speed freewheel (not cassette). I had a hollow axle from another seven speed bike but the threads are different. I would like to keep the current cones because of the spacing. The dust caps are part of the cones. Could someone educate me as to the various thread types that I might encounter? For reference, what is the thread count for the axle on a Shimano Ultegra 9 speed rear hub?

Sincerely,

folderFigure out the thread diameter and pitch, and then go to a place like www.loosescrews,com to see what they have. QR axels are typically lager in diameter than solid ones, so you could be hosed when trying to convert without also changing out everything on your axel.

your solid axle is most likely 9.5 X 26 tpi, for which Wheel Manufacturing makes a QR axle. Most likely doesn't mean is, so as sydney says confirm before buying.
