Guys/Ladies,
I want to raise my handlebars as my back and neck have been hurting. Also my reach isnt the most comfortable. Anyways, im not sure what route to go. I currently have a trek 6series. What should i do? I was thinking of buying spacers but i noticed that if i put more spacers the screw that connects to the steerer tube (i think thats what its called). Does this mean i would need to buy a longer screw if i installed more spacers? and is this even safe? Please help me out guys to finding the cheapest, safest way to raise my handlbars.
Thank you
Manuel
Do you have straight/flat bars or riser bars? Also, if the reach is too long, how long is the stem? Do you know exactly what model Trek you have? You should be able to find it on bikepedia.com and post the link here. What type of riding do you do? How tall are you and what size is the bike?
EDIT: On a side note, I used to start having neck pain after riding for a little bit. Then it got to where it would start to hurt after just a few miles. Then I tweaked my neck and ended up at the chiropractor. Turns out my neck has been locked up the whole time but only seemed to show itself while biking. Once it got bad enough to result in a noticeable neck injury and I went to the chiropractor, he got it feeling Much better again and my neck pain while biking went away.

you can get a stem with more rise and skip the spacers - the spacer trick will only work if you can move them from on top of your stem to under your stem. You can't add spacers if you don't have room on your forks steerer tube.
You can also get a bar with more rise and/or sweep to get you to sit up more and take pressure off your back and neck.
You can take your bike to a good LBS and get them to fit you and improve your cock pit set up.
