Yes, everyone knows me as the rush fan. Well guess what im not the only one here, i know there are plenty who would love t talk about them. I am making this thread for you people out there. ON this thread you can talk about anything rush related. You can indentify your self, write lyrics, say your fav. songs. Anything http://perso.ksurf.net/salmacis/pochettes/Rush.gif .

Il start things off, Ive been a fan for a long time. since i think i was 10. I had a friend buy me exit stage left and It was love at first sight. Been a fan since then. I have about 12 of there cds, I will list them if wanted. Any way just went to my first concert in August. of COURSE it was the 30th anniversery concert. Well I think that is good enough to start, whose next?

Oh and i have to say, "exit...Stage Left" is my favorite closely followed by "2112"

My favorite line.

No his mind is not for rent
To any god or government
Always hopeful, yet discontent
He knows changes aren't permanent

I think Rush is one of the reasons I play the bass guitar today.

My son got me Classic Rush Bass Anthology Series for Christmas! It's got bass lines and tab for 20 songs. That should keep me busy for a while.

It is hard to be a Rush fan these days. They haven't made a good album since Presto in 1989. Roll The Bones only had one decent song. The rest was filler. Counterparts was mostly filler also. Test For Echo was total crap. I haven't bought Vapor Trails but it probably sucks too.

My favorite Rush albums are 2112, Moving Pictures (of course), Hold Your Fire, and Presto.

Rush fans should know that drummer Neil Peart is a dedicated bicycle tourist. He wrote a rather boring tour account but I can't remember the name.

Do you mean Ghost Rider?

And he is on motorcycle in his books.

I also thought this thread was going to be about Rush Limbaugh. I'm glad it isn't. Whenever I hear Rush mentioned, I always think about these lyrics by Pavement (can't recall the name of the song):

What about the voice of Geddy Lee?
How did it get so high?
I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy?
(other voice)I know him and he does

I vaguely remember hearing a quote about Geddy Lee having the "whitest voice in rock n roll" but I just did a search and couldn't find anything. Was that quote about someone else?

I have been a Rush fan since the '70's.

I finally saw them in concert a few years ago and was disapointed, obviously played with a recorded track, and the sound was some of the worst i have heard at concert.

My favorite tune is Countdown. Nice to know someone besides me is infatuated with the space program.

It is OK. But coming right after Moving Pictures it was quite the disappointment.

It rained today, so I spent some time working out bass lines from the book my son gave me for Christmas. Well, after a little practice I can now play the bass line of 2112:Overture/Temples of Syrinx. Slowly, but I got it.

My all-time favorite Rush song is The Trees. I'm still trying to get the right rythm on that one, though - the time signature goes from 3/4 to 4/4 to 6/8 to 4/4 to 5/4 to 3/4 back to 4/4. Whew! Oh well, guess I'll just have to listen to it some more.

Cool Thread, awsome band :)

Been a rush fan since the mid 70's I think my first Album was 2112 and the first time I saw them in concert was in 1982 or maybe 83 on the Signals tour, then again in 86 and 87. I agree with whoever said they haven't had a good album since 89 and I haven't listened to much of their new stuff.

I was on a charity ride here in Texas this past october, went alone and didn't know anyone there but a guy parked next to me and played Rush while we waited for the start to get organized, definately got the blood flowing for the ride! :D

Think my favorite album is either Rush, Fly by Night or Side one of 2112. Favorite song...hmm...maybe Side one, part III Discovery....just too many good songs to choose from!

Oh man... Fly by Night is just.... AWESOME! It just puts me in a trance everytime I hear it- like that episode of Seinfeld when Elaine is dating the doctor and just goes into a trance everytime he hears "Desperado". Well, except I actually do a ton of head banging, fist pumping and jumping around. I love Fly by Night- it is an awesome album. I actually first heard some music off that album back when I was watching Degrassi Junior High on tv when I was growing up. Man.... that brings back such good memories. Ahhhhh Rush!

since i think i was 10. I had a friend buy me exit stage left and It was love at first sight.

I got my copy at age 13 and was in awe. I lost interest around the time of Presto but I'm now rediscovering the older stuff again.

Aha !! Found it-

The Masked Rider: Cycling in West Africa by Neil Peart

The introduction was pretty good but the rest isn't worth reading. You can get it from Amazon.com if feel you just can't live without it.

As much as I love Rush, I'm not a big fan of anything after Hold Your Fire. There are a few good songs here and there. However, I consider Vapor Trails their best album in the past 15 years. I also like their cover album Feedback.

One of my best Rush moments? Well, I saw them on the Presto tour in Chicago. It kicked butt.

Another? Once, I was half-asleep listening to Freewill on my headphones. I began to dream and my dad yelled at me, "What are you going to do with your life?" I replied, "I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose..." Then I woke up and heard the lyric "Freewill" in the headset.

Went to a Rush concert everytime they played in Chicago. I play the live CD about twice a month.

I am also a huge Rush fan, I have everything up to Echo, even a couple of Remasters and their cover set with summer time blues. Got turned on by a girlfreind(Thanks Erica) in '84 and then returned to them by another girlfreind(Thanks Jenny) in '95. I can't wait until I get to the R's uploading my music on to the computer so I can stick them into my JukeBox.
I dig on the Bass to thanks to them and Primus(They are Rush fans as well) but I suck do to a lack of practice and skill.
CycleWorld(motorcycles) has a good article with Neill Peart from this past year, maybe 2003. He did bicycle from tour location to location back in the eighties. If they ever come to town again, I may come off my stingy hip and go see them.

I would like to tell everyone a story about a 13 year old WASPy dork-a-roo that may or may not be yours truly. This person would stay up all night listening to "A Show of Hands", playing "Metroid" (on the original Nintendo Entertainment System,) and drinking Coca-Cola. This was just a few years prior to discovering the wonder of controlled substance impairment, but Rush went well with that, too. Rush fans are a lot like comic book fanatics,(I was one of those, too,) I've never met one who was an evil person, nerdiness aside.

I had no idea Rush had so many American fans. I always thought they were only well known in Canada. I should confess I'm actually not a fan, but nonetheless I'm disappointed that Neal Peart is influenced by Ayn Rand.

You know, if I hadn't been watching the Degrassi series, it would still be something I would view as a Canadian only phenomenon. Good thing those kids were around to set me straight and save me from the likes of Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, and Madonna! ;)

I think Saved by the Bell was supposed to be the DeGrassi answer to the Canadians. They fell way short and had no content. All fluff. But who knew that Elizabeth Berkley was such a great actress! That girl can dance!

Oh geesh, Metroid was my favorite when it first came out. I was just telling my kids about how my roomate and I would stay up all night playing metroid back then...we were so cool man! I'm sure that Rush was on the Stereo more often than not during those all night Metroid-o-thons...but we had definately discovered controlled substance and cheap beer by then :D

Brace your self I watched the Littlest Hobo with a passion. Poor German Shepard( I think he's more Husky) on his own and wondering Canada. Helping people as he traveled along.
London is an extremely intelligent, wandering German shepherd who walks into a different place in each episode of this long-running television series, and comes upon people down on their luck or in trouble. London always befriends and helps the struggling person or persons. Then, when his job is done at episode's end, London declines to be the pet of the people he has helped and departs to continue his cross-country drifting.

Thats the kind of dog I'd like to run across when I have had a crash.

P.S. Don't do it! Just because I watch Canadian TV. :)

Life is just A Fantasy! Aldo Nova.

Yuck!

A few months ago I was able to d/l their entire studio catalogue and rediscover all their music. Since I have the collection on vinyl (and no player) I don't feel too bad about the downloading :) although I did recently pick up Exit Stage... Left on CD for it's 16-bit 44.1 kHz goodness (MP3 didn't do it justice)

Well, I finally got my speakers for my ipod. After having that dang ipod since the first day of release and not using them at all, I'll finally use it for new years eve. I just figured out I don't have Donkey Kong, so that's a downer, but I at least have my millipede, astroids, pac man, and frogger to keep me going!

Go Atari! Go Rush!
