... and for all people in the tsunami area.

Mr. Felix is biking in southeast Asia and posted on this forum about a month ago. He has a blog of his journey at http://www.mrfelix.blogspot.com/ In his last post on December 9 he reported that he was "now on a boat sailing to the Andaman Islands. We sail out of Phuket, Thailand on Saturday, 11th Dec.04, heading for the Andaman's, Sri Lanka, Madras and Goa by late January." All of these areas, except Goa, have been devestated.

Lets hope he and his fellow travelers are ok.

According to a story on NPR, boats at sea (including sailboats) may not have been affected much by the waves.

The following is a report from a cruising sailor in Phuket, Thailand:

Good news. The blog has a link to the website of the sea journey. It is in German but the Bablefish translation says that they are at sea and are not affected. Sorry I did not think to follow that link before I posted.

Felix & Mr Pumpy safe in Kolkata!

Thanks to all those that emailed post the recent tsunami disaster.

I am fine and in Kolkata, and all is well.

Kublai's Khan sailed from Phuket to the Andamans on the 11th December, and left Port Blair (the capital) on the 21st December for Sri Lanka. I left the boat and flew up from Port Blair to Kolkata on the same day.

So, fortuitously, we all missed the tsunami.

The boat was a day out of Sri Lanka on Dec. 26, and being on the high seas, missed the wave completely. They are now sailing to Goa.

I am in Kolkata, and about to head to Burma. On the morning of the 26th, it was low tide in Kolkata, so apparently that saved us. At high tide, dear old "Cal" would have taken a beating.

But yes, this is a big, big disaster, and my heart goes out to folks caught up in it in any way. I wish you the best of luck.

Felix & the real Mr P, in Kolkata
