Southern California - After a long, bike-less hiatus, I have returned.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Some people may still remember me (Mr. Beanz)...I quit riding a while back, but now I'm back. I got my first car ('02 Chevy Malibu), then my mom killed it driving to San Francisco. I then actually bought my first car, a 1978 VW bus. I started restoring it, during which I went through 5 cars ('05 Hyundai Sonata, '90 Mercedes 300E, '89 Toyota Celica GT, and '89 Volvo 264), after which I actually had my bus finished.
It ran very nicely before paint and bodywork (which I did myself), but I can only assume the engine was tampered with (after all, it was in my body shop class in high school) or just hurt from sitting for a year (only occasionally starting it up)...but it ran very badly when the bus was pretty. I lived with the ****ty performance of the bus for about a year, but when I had to smog it again, it wouldn't pass and I didn't have the funds to fix it.
I sold my bus October 24th, 2011 for $2,200 and bought a '99 Ford Mustang that same night. The Mustang was definitely the most reliable car I have ever owned. I really liked it and wanted to keep it. Unfortunately, I got in a car accident on Monday, March 19th and the Mustang was written off as a total loss. Even more unfortunately, I got screwed over with the insurance company. Since the police on scene shoo'd off my only witness, and the idiot that pulled out in front of me won't admit that she ran a red light, the accident was deemed a 50/50 fault. I am getting literally nothing, as of now. I have to deal with insurance companies and trying to get the 911 call that my witness made as evidence. Wawanesa insurance company (my insurance) is being utterly useless in my case.
So, since I'm a full time college student, I have to have some sort of transportation. And since I can't afford to get another car, I'm going to start commuting by bike, at least until I can afford some sort of car. I'll probably be frequenting the forums much more now.
I guess this is sort of a re-introduction. Hello!

Hahahaha! I remember you, meeting your Dad too. Gold bike, distinctive brand and a photoshop expert.:D. I see some young dudes out on trail rides and often wonder if you are one of them figuring you're much older now.:D
What were you 14? Now 20 'ish?

I take it you didn't have collision insurance and were relying on the person you crashed with to have it? Keep in mind 35% of California drivers have no insurance at all. Sorry to hear about it though - I've been in 4 to 5 crashes in the last 10 years and not a single one was my fault. Shockingly, the other person always had insurance and I presume the police reports were fair - they don't share them with you unless you pay. What an effective use of my tax dollars. One of the crashers was insured by Wawanesa and they were actually easy to deal with from my perspective. Sorry to hear they're not in your case.
So welcome back to biking, even if it is circuitous!

Maxi you might want to brush up on your math skills. Your last post was about two and a half years ago. http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php/605760-Dirty-Laundry?p=10087329&viewfull=1#post10087329 If you left when you were 13 you are now 16 or so.

I realized this after looking through my last posts yesterday. One of them said "I'll be 17 in April". So I was 16, not 14 when I left!

I did only have liability insurance, and the other lady had full coverage. I did not have collision, but I can't complain because my parents pay for it.

No need to apologize. Don't you hate it when you get an itch and some smart-aleck points a camera at the worst possible moment?

You understand me :o
And I miss that Volvo. I actually got it for free. Water pump was bad, but I drove it around anyway. Lasted 1000 miles without any coolant before I replaced the water pump. After I got it fixed I drove it to my mechanic's shop to make sure it was all in good shape and it caught fire there. Starter wiring was cracked and shorted out :/ I didn't want to let go of that car, but rewiring all that would be too much work. Sold it to pick-a-part for $400.
Little known fact, that Peugeot V6 was the same engine that was in the original DMC Deloreans. And let me tell you, it took a long time to get this beast up to 88 mph.
