How fast can you RUN, not bike, 5k?
Seems like cycling has given me good lungs for running. I've run maybe 40 miles in the last 12 months (2 half marathons, and 4-5 training runs...I wasn't training since I ran the halfs with my wife at her pace), but the 5k training run was 19:30 or so. I'd like to start running again this year, but the cycling has proved to be too hard to cut back on.

I can tear up a 5 K like it's nobody's business. Like 25-30 minutes! That's damn near record pace isn't it?
I can also drink lots of beer, and deal out euchre in my sleep. wait...that has nothing to do with cycling....my bad.
I'm a former cross-country runner and still run to cross train during the winter.
I can hit about 17-18 minutes over 5k when I'm in shape.
I've never run a 5K faster than 21:34...quite certain I never will.

:( 29:35 but I just started running again three weeks ago after a twenty hear hiatus full of cheeseburgers and Marlboros...

WTF does this have to do with cycling? BTW, back in the day I could easily put out a 5 min mile. I don't even want to think about what it would be now.

21 min with obstacles....warrior dash
21 min with obstacles....warrior dash
How was that? Those things look so cheezy, but also maybe a bit of fun. Is the warrior dash the one that is chip timed?

After 3 weeks of running 3x a week (The first running I'd done in about 6 months,) I did a 17:58 in training for a duathlon last August.
I'm definitely built more to be a runner, and it comes very naturally to me, I just don't enjoy it.

My best during my crossfit days was 18:20'ish. I never really enjoyed running though - always found I was forcing myself to go.

I have consistently refused to run ever since I got out of the army.

I did 24:12 about 2 months ago. I think I can beat that now.

This body refuses to run without an incentive, like an irate husband with a shotgun behind it. :roflmao2:

Answer your own questions much? :)
Ran a 10k in the Army, about 48:30, bout 1988; figure from that, I could likely have done a 23:00 5k.
Can't even DO a 5k now, back won't take it.

+1. When I first met Mrs Buddha 20+ years ago I ran 5 miles a day cross country. Then I realized running is boring and painful so why bother. Cycling is much more fun.
when I ran a lot in my mid 20s I had a PR that was just shy of breaking 8 minute miles, so my 5ks were somewhere around 25 minutes or whatever... That was my goal - a sub-8:00 5K...but I got fat and old before I got around to it.

My personal best was about 23 minutes but that was a few years ago. Haven't tried running since I put all the weight back on after getting sick of the gym being useless, and despite losing all of it and then some by cycling I never felt the urge to run.

My question is not how fast, but why?
Not sure. Want to time me? Mkay, go get a calendar.

I can "jog" that in 31 minutes. I havent tried racing it tho. Personally, I despise jogging/running with a passion, it's just one of the most mind-numbingly boring activities and the only thing I can think of during the run is how much my body hurts and how much I hate it.
Now, give me a bicycle, and I can be blazing with the wind for hours!

Considering how badly my knees react to that sort of impact, about thirty seconds.......before I collapse in agony on the ground and have to be carried away.

Running? I'm the worlds worst runner. I can jog some if I have to. I have noticed that cycling has improved my aerobic threshold so that its not the lungs that stop me, rather the constant jarring that running tends to create.
I suffered a spiral compound fracture below the knee on my left leg while running (racing actually) through a park as a child- and have had no real desire to run ever since.
There was a time 20 years ago when I was at Job Corps where I was a pretty good sprinter- I was almost always the first in line for chow:p

If I need to go that far, I'll ride it.

Walking is for chumps. Running is for unarmed and frightened chumps.
Does jogging in place* aboard a moving train count?
* I probably mean "sitting quietly".
I once broke 20' (19:58). It was hard.

21:00 on the dot... windy & cold day. Can probably do better, but I'm sick of running for now... haven't ran since Dec. 31st.

I jog a 5k two or three times a week. My "fast" times are in the 27 minute range, my "slow" times are in the 29 minute range. I've never tried to run a 5k for speed but I think I could do it in 15 minutes...I just have to run faster.
I just started a C25K plan this past week. Thank goodness I've been cycling, or I'd be ghostwriting this (literally, I fear).
I hope within a couple of months or so, I'll be able to answer the question....but I suspect it will be a VERY slow time.

I wouldn't know because I don't run. Running is evil. ;)

ha ha! I win! varsity in high school, 16:42
it was mostly flat, mostly sidewalk, but curvy.
I did a5k charity race just running for fun and came in 3rd in my age group.
But that was 10 years ago. :(
Just starting to learn how to train for biking, really looking forward to feeling the burn again.
