Triathlon - Trek Equinox 7 '04

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi,
I'm looking at getting a new bike, I've been offered the Equinox 7 for about £700 (apparently approx $1350) instead of £1200. This seems like a pretty good deal to me, does anyone have any suggestion on other bikes which I should look at first? or comments on this bike?
cheers
chris
I don't know if thats a good deal or not, but other bikes to consider are the cervelo/felt/QR all of which have good entry level bikes. If this one fits you best, go for it. Nothing bad to say about trek other than that "everybody has a trek." Mabye that's not true in the UK.
Is the bike you're refering to the one just released for 05(white frame) or the end of the year models for this past year(black and grey frame)? If its the Black and grey frame, pass on it you can find them for much cheaper. If its the 05 white version, it's worth thinking about, those retail for 1650 and I think they're a reasonable deal at that price.
Although as stated above check all your Tri-bike options.

£700 sounds reasonable for the Equinox 7. I did answer to your posting in the road cycling forum... It sounds like you are really looking for a bike that can do both road and tri... I don't think the Equinox will be the answer to that... I highly recommend Kestrel Talon. Works great both on the road and in a tri (although I'm a duathlete, but since we're not talking swimming, it still applies... :) ). Cervelo is another one to take a look at.
If you are investing in a dedicated tri bike, then I would go for the Trek.

Cheers for your help, I will have a look at the bikes suggested. It is the '04 model, i will look around and see what other deals there are, there are a couple of good bike shops around the SW England which I'm hoping to have a few good new year deals. I posted the same thread in both forums in order to see if i might get different opinions from people with different ideas etc, although i think everyone has the same advice.
Thanks for all your help,
Chris
