Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - schmurban schmassault

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm not sure I understand what you're complaining about.
If you are complaining about the proliferation of SUVs then I'm right there with you, those road hogs have pissed me off for years.

Don't forget, SUV's don't kill people, people kill people
Ya'll have it wrong, in the end, canadians kill people, since we have vancouver, and vancouver has the whole "north shore" scene going on, upon which the original "urban assault" idea comes from, which means the anti-missile shield must cover the common border too.
I'll shut up now and stop using commas.

to me, urban assault is just a way for people to ride BMX that cant ride a BMX. ive dabbled in this 'urban assault' but quickly realized that BMX is the way to be hardcore. :)
Just a point, which is most assaulting on the "urban" : Some kid gapping stairs or some nuts riding a fixie with slicks on ice(what we call "commuting" here up north)?
Exactly.
I think that it's all just a matter of what you define as 'assault' - for me that's attacking traffic, getting from point a to point b as fast as possible, laws be damned. For a SS MTBer that means urban technical or urban singletrack. Different bikers and different bikes for different kinds of 'assault'.
Whatever.

I've been told I look like David Cross by multiple people, but I believe they were all drunk, so its hard to get a good opinion.

Because I'm a huge nerd and a lawyer, I must point out that "assault" doesn't require any hitting or grinding or anything; it just requires putting someone in fear of an imminent physical attack (battery is the actual attack). So "urban assault" pretty much means striking fear into the hearts of city-dwellers. I'm a huge fan of that, but I think you could do it on pretty much any bike, especially if you're funny-looking.

Maybe, but I think fearsomeness is directly proportional to wheelbase :D

Seconded.

I do it off of the bike all the time in winter, when I go into a store wearing all black and a facemask.
However, also being a big geek, but not a lawyer, assault is often used in place of attack in modern english. In this usage, the object of the assault doesn't need to be a human.

Most would think of urban assault as attacking manmade obstacles (ie stairs, rails, walls, fountains) with a mtb, such as is the trend now with the crossover of X-Gamers into the MTB world.

Black Label bike gang in NYC builds and rides them. This is a video of their annual BIKE KILL they host every year around Halloween. This took place in Bed Stuy Brooklyn. I guess you could consider this Urban Assault. BTW. That's a jet engine strapped to the back of a bicycle at the end. Enjoy.
