Bicycle Mechanics - Need some guidance on servicing SID 2004

I got a used SID 2004, a friend got it from his specialized epic pro but got a marzocchi fork so he sold it to me for cheap. Somehow in hell he damaged something so it leaks air on the negative side, i believe it is the seal. Where do i go to have this thing fixed? I would like to get it serviced, the seals replaced and all but where do i go about this? Do i contact rock shox? I called up two shops and they said they may have to send it to a rock shox service center or something like that, does anybody know how much that is going to cost? Any guidance at all is appreciated.

hmm, well do you know if replacing seals is an expensive procedure?

If its just a seal, no, it was about $30-40 at the shop I used to work at.

There are some shock oils that some shops don't have in stock, I frequently use shock lubes from motorcycle shocks. The seals are pretty common, many suppliers have them. The shop I'm at charges $40 labor and about $20 for seals. If you send the fork to rockshox, expect 3 weeks turn around (most of that time is shipping) and an extra $15 for freight.

well im trying to avoid having it sent away to rock shox or a place far. Hippie suspension seeems good but its not excactly close, on the other side of hte country. I would like to learn to do it myself personally, could i order seals from rockshox? And do i need any special tools, im guessing i do and it isn't worth doing it myself.

Well i went to a shop and they said 90 dollars for the seals and labor of installing, does that sound reasonable? Its 30 for seals and 60 for labor

I just did one and $30 for the seals sounds right, labor depends on the area, we would charge around $40. Contact hippieTech, they are some cool guys(They are working on a really old rear shock for us right now) They should be able to give you a reasionable idea of repair costs.

Well the thing with hippietech is that i would have to send it over there. NH to there is not going to be the cheapest not to mention the wait. I just dont know if 60 dollars is reasonable for a seal replacement.
