Bicycle Mechanics - Should i be worried about my bottom bracket?

My bottom bracket doesn't always feel smooth. I can't hear anything but in my feet I feel a bumpyness. Both pedals, around the entire rotation. It doesn't always do this, just occasionally. Is this a bearing ball that is not smooth? I can be fine with it as long as I'm not messing it up worse by riding it.

It's a bike shop Schwinn Express '96 or '97. Chromoly frame hybrid.

Assuming it's a sealed cartridge, if the bearings are going, they will continue to degrade until the BB obviously needs replacement; nothing else will be harmed

Thanks. I should add that the bike has extremely low miles on it for being that age. Like practically none when I got it and under a thousand now. Always stored inside.

Or the crankarms are loose. Can you feel anything loose if you wiggle by hand ? try both sides.

Is it the same in all cogs?

your feet are on the pedals, and they have bearings too.

The crank arms don't feel loose when I try to wiggle them. And changing cogs doesn't seem to affect it. I did realize that I only feel it when I'm going really slow. It's just a slight rough feeling... like tiny bumps, not a click, and very consistent as the pedals travel around the circle. I don't think it's the pedals because it feels the same in both feet.

drop the chain on the bottom bracket shell and then turn the cranks. Best to isolate moving parts.
