I emailed Supernova about this about a week ago and haven't gotten any response so I thought I'd ask what people here think....

I've been researching why Tout Terrain / Supernova's The Plug II Plus has problems with maintaining charging of my Droid RAZR. It seems that the RAZR is finicky about the power it sees.

I checked tonight and found that the voltage put out at the USB port is 4.95v (which I think meets the USB standard) but I don't have any idea what sort of amperage the plug is supplying at this point.

Can anyone here think of a good way to use a multimeter to check the amperage of a usb cable without hacking a good cable apart?

Thanks,
Kevin

can't help because my method is to hack the cable.

4.95v is fine

unterhausen - Are you thinking that I open the insulation and use the 5v dc wire to measure across?

I think I have an extension cable somewhere that I may be able to use.

that is what I have done in the past, did some low-power computer work and needed to measure power consumption

In the mean time, my use of a buffer battery totally works. The dyno charges the battery and the battery charges the phone. The charging is pretty stable at 9.5mph and at 12mph it's damn solid.

Glad I had the idea of using a verizon P893 for $30 instead of a $100+ e-werks cache battery.
