Bicycle Mechanics - Seatpost

:(Hi,

Seatpost of my bike is stuck to the frame. Long time ago I held it down to the frame to adjust the saddle height for somebody else now I want to adjust it for myself but I did not succeed even by plier.
Can anybody say what should I do?

What materials are the seatpost and frame made from, ie, aluminum alloy seatpost and steel frame ect.?

Yea , galvanic corrosion has locked many an aluminum seatpost into a steel frame,
when owner has not added a bit of grease in there, between the 2,
and pulled the post out occasionally, re do, for maintenance.

Search is your friend. Stuck seat post is a common problem. The solution depends on how badly stuck it is (I have been successful on 12 out of 13 of them). #13 will require me to cut it out, which I am avoiding right now (I have plenty of other projects.....) Sheldon Brown site goes through it as well.

The solution is going to take a lot more than a pair of pliers.

When you lowered the seatpost, how hard was that to do?

Sometimes when you have a lot of seat post sticking up the seatpost gets bent just a skosh - it doesn't take much. When that happens it's hard to push the seat post down into the bike frame and even harder to pull it back up.

we tell people with seized stuff to come in during the winter. we get plenty of time to fix it and you wont get charged out the wazoo for it. come in the summer and your wallet will be on fire

more leeway in the pricing during the winter. removing seized stuff is usually charged by time not a set price. if we charged the actual time it took during the summer you will be crying. we try to discourage that stuff during the peak season but if your wallet is ready then we will do it

Both of them (seatpost and frame) are made of steel, there is a thin bushingbetween seatpost, and frame that seems to be steel so I do not think the issueis galvanic corrosion. There might be some rusts but since there is no gap betweenseatpost, frame and bushing liquid solvents, or lubricants do not penetrate inso a strong adherence between metals prevents any movement of seatpost.

Steel in steel is good news. Get a bench vise.

It was very hard.
