There's an orgainzation called Living City Block (http://www.livingcityblock.org/living-city-denver-lodo-2/about-us-denver/) that has a project underway in Denver's LoDo neighborhood. Kinda interesting project, but this post isn't directly about them. There's a rendering on their project webpage showing Wazee St. with some rather alarming bike infrastructure:

Google street view doesn't show anything like this, but the title of the drawing is "Wazee 2012" so I'm wondering if it exists now or will soon. I don't mind the parked-car buffer, but the zig-zags are ridiculous. Is this in fact what Wazee looks like now? Is this sort of thing starting to appear in Denver?

Moved away a few years ago, but I like to keep up with the Denver bike news.

It doesn't look too much like that right now. Check out google map street view for something more accurate.

I suppose there are no easy answers, but what's also concerning is putting the bike lane in between peds and parked cars. But if that's what a developer (with deep pockets) wants, then that's what will most likely happen.

Already too many drunk, midwestern frat types in LoDo anyway, so I just stay away from it. I've only been here for a few years and it's becoming less and less like CO and more and more like the midwest. The only cool neighborhoods left are Cap Hill/City Park, Colfax and maybe Baker or Sunnyside/Berkeley. Even lower/east Highland is being over ran people who want another sterile, lame, Wash Park type of neighborhood.

That's quite concerning. I'm surprised I haven't seen that before.

I have complete confidence that Denver Public Works aren't stupid enough to build infrastructure like that.

Wazee St right now is nothing like that. Just a two way street, yellow strip down the center and on street parking on both sides. It is actually quite narrow and traffic moves slowly. It is very bikeable.

Further, I doubt that AASTHO guidelines would allow for that kind of infrastructure. Trapping a bike path between parked cars and a sidewalk is just asking for trouble. Really makes you question their urban planning ideas, doesn't it?
