No Aspartame in any amount

Additionally:
Quinine at hour of sleep (Hylands Leg Cramp Formula)
Potassium and Vitamin C (Emergen-C vitamin Pack x3/d)
3 Qts water Minimum (1/2 your weight in Onces per day)
Ca-Mg-Zn Supplements (Generic Vit Supplement)

The Long Story:
I have always been prone to cramps and attributed it as a side effect of having malaria in the military 40 years ago. They were minor cramps of the calf and toes. (It is odd that most people who have a history of Malaria suffer with intermittent leg cramps and cold intolerance for unknown reasons.) When having symptoms I could stretch heat up and take potassium, calcium, Magnesium and zinc supplements with lots of water and reduce their incidence and severity. Hydration being the greatest part of controlling any cramp.
Two years ago my cramps became uncontrollable. They were severe prolonged debilitating cramps of the large muscles or my legs. Also in small areas not pron to usual cramping like my shin or the top of of my foot. Often I could not ride because the cramps would not release or at night my legs would go into tetany like cramps. I reviewed all my meds, liver enzymes, blood indices's and diet. All were normal if not better than normal for a 58 year old.
I stumbled on a Livestrong blog entry that blamed Aspartame for severe debilitating cramps. Further probing food trials showed numbers of statistically insignificant cramp like symptoms in one of every 20 thousand or more people who used Aspartame. I nerve really cared for sugar substitutes but over the past two years I have been on a weight loss diet and have been using Aspartame products daily in my chewing gum and other diet products. Not expecting any changes in my cramps I stopped all Aspartame products 6 weeks ago.
The result has been miraculous. After the first three days my cramps had reduced to one half the number as before. Three weeks latter I could go the entire night without a cramp. The cramps I did have were of reduced intensity. Now I have manageable cramps like I had thirty years ago in that they are for a reason like, over use, no stretching or dehydration.
Evidently I am one of those one in twenty thousand people who react to Aspartame. This is not to say it is a bad product. It fills a very much needed area in diet and nutrition. I am just posting this here because I can ride my bike again and I know youse guys can appreciate that...

I don't know how aspartame affects others but for me it is like a poison. I get chest pain, muscle cramps, and just feel awful if I use this artificial sweetener in any amount.

When I tell some about how I am affected they look at me like I must be crazy. Which I probably am. I keep thinking that if it is bad for me that it must be bad for them and at some point they will be affected. But who knows.

...at some point they will be affected. But who knows.

Probably not - Its only one in twenty thousand that is effected - But at least we know we are the ones...

I was amazed to find the only chewing gum that did not have aspartame in it was Chicklets - Aspartame breaks down into aldehydes when stored at greater than 110 degrees (temperature of the inside of a parked car in Texas during the summer)...

Also those effected by Aspartame can also be sensitive to MSG if dehydrated...
