BMX - GT performer Wack or wonderful?

Used to ride a bit as a kid, had a mongoose, i'm 24 now and need a new ride. This chicks offered me an unriden performer for £180. Anyone got an opinion on this should i get it or shell out more cash and get something like an entry level redline?? HELP times running out.

i actually just bought mysefl a 2004 gt performer off ebay that has never been out of the box.. and the bike is sick! i absolutly love it... and i bought it i think for abotu 180 or a lil more... i mean it's deffinatly not the best bike in the world but it does the trick and it will last you.. it's a great bike to get and then once you get up more money it's easy to "pimp" it .
i could get it if you still can. I'm extremely happy with my purchase

Where is the picture of the bike? What year is it?
The current model performer - as on gtbicycles.com is a pretty generic entry level bike. You won't (WILL NOT!) find a better Redline for the money, but I'm not sure you won't find other bikes out there in general that are better for your cash. I would spend a little time doing some pricing research for online shops in your neck of the woods.
It's not a BAD bike, it's just entry level. There are no major flaws, but there is very little additional information from the GT website about that bike. It is likely tri-moly with low-grad parts... but it seems to have decent design.
It would be similar to a lot of entry level Haros, or other bikes around the same price.
Keep in mind that brand new, built up, front a bike shop it is 200 pounds, so not a lot more and a bike shop will build it and warranty it for you.

i didn't go to a shop to get it put together. but i have been very happy with this bike so far. if i was able to i deffinatly would have gone with a Haro.. that's what i wanted first... but i needed a bike asap. like i said before this bike is very easy to upgrade with. deffiantly couldn't afford some insane bike however it treats me just fine.

I sold my old GT ProPerformer when I got outta BMX and into MTBing for like $30 lol. It was a fun bike while I had it, pretty easy to manual. Now im kinda wishing I hadnt sold it because im gettin back into bmx....

i heard the big is real heavy, like in some other threads on this site, but i'd check it out first, ride it around, see if it fits.

seems everyone is,my flatmate is gona buy 1 as well.
i rode 15 yrs ago, my dad threw out a Raleigh Super Burner and a Silverfox 10 + yrs ago.
I got back into mtb'ing a coupla year ago, go a BMX 3 weeks ago , get yerself one, good fun :)
* Altho I am 30 and tore my shoulder muscle after 1 week, so off bike for 1 week more.. woops
