I need a little help with making sure I’m getting the right size bike. I’m specifically looking at the Specialized Vita and will be using this bike to ride around the neighborhood and occasionally on the road. I found a website that showed me how to take certain measurements, and came up with the following (in cm):
Inseam 76.84
Trunk 60.96
Forearm 31.75
Arm 57.15
Thigh 59.69
Lower Leg 52.07
Sternal Notch 137.80
Total Body Height 168.28
The same website also made a few suggestions depending on the riding style that I am looking for. I’m not looking to be the most aerodynamic rider out there, and comfort is more important to me than speed. I do prefer a more upright riding position.
So after I saw these 2 suggestions I went to the Specialized Vita website and tried to figure out which size would work best for me based on the numbers they had listed, but a lot of the terms didn’t match up and I’m confused.
I went into a local bike shop and was told a medium would work for me, but they didn’t have the Vita in either size for me to try out. My only concern with a medium is that my arms are fairly short and I don’t want to feel like I’m struggling to reach the handlebars all the time since I want a more upright riding position. Would a medium be okay or would it be safer to go with the small?
Thanks!
