A gentleman brought this bike, which looks to be in fine condition into the shop today hoping to sell it.
The boss isn't into buying classic bikes, and was in the process of sending him away when I stepped in to ask some questions.
First, a shot of the bike.

Component wise, I guess the only thing of interest is the New Departure coaster brake hub.
There appears to be little rust, and it looks to be in rideable condition. Asked if he had any idea what the year of manufacture was, he said he was pretty sure it was 1954.
The serial number is located on the left rear dropout and partially concealed by the rack and fender stays. We were too busy to spend enough time to remove them to read the serial number, but I gave the gentleman my contact info and asked him to send it to me.
A few more shots.

So, any ideas what the value of something like this would be?

Bump.
Still don't have the SN, but he sent me a picture of another bike he has for sale, and the prices he hopes to get for them. I have no idea if his expectations are realistic, but I'm hoping someone here has.
He's looking for $1500.00 for the Ross, and $700.00 for this Schwinn American.

Here's an outdoor shot of the Ross.

He's an absolute nut case.

If the Schwinn American were completely original... it may fetch as much as $300-$400 USD. Being original is key for this model since it used 100% American made parts, hence the name. If it's only average it may be worth $150-$200.

That Ross - maybe $200-$250 tops.

Thanks. That's a little more in line with the numbers I would have expected, but you just never know what might have an unexpectedly high value to collectors.
