i am sorry to sound snarky but i cannot stop myself from asking...
@GENESTARWIND, are you really gonna put omnumnums on a schwinn racer?

well ive had the frame and have being using it as my first fixed gear setup, as i buildup components until i can find the frame that i want in particular, im just gathering components that i can transfer over later, so yes i will be but for a short period of time.
I can get a really good deal on omniums from a friend so if the crankset with that chainring will fit ill buy it, I may buy them and trade them for something else, who knows.

If you're getting them from a friend, try installing them. If they fit, buy them.

neither of us have the tools to do so :(
if we did,i would do so. Damn it, this is such a good deal too. **** :(
the buy would require me to purchase a different cog or smaller chainring. mmmmm :\

There's just the park tool for the BB for $19, and an 8mm allen wrench.

id have to pull my bb and install his plus cranks, not sure if either of us have time for that since we have conflicting work schedules.

How the hell would you do it if you actually bought the crankset? I honestly don't understand people who ride bikes but have no tools to maintain them.

I started riding bikes recently (<1year ago). I don't have a bottom bracket tool, because I haven't had to remove my bb. If I ever need to, I'll buy the tool, but until then it's money I don't need to spend. just sayin

sigh... because i havent bought tools to do any serious work on my bike yet, all ive replaced are the wheels, pedals, seat and a nitto drop bar which i did. i do plan on purchasing these tools in the future but considering i havent needed them yet and there is a lbs like 5 minute ride from here.
why are you critisizing me because i dont have them? if it makes you feel better when i owned my explorer and motorcyce, i did all the work myself from oil changes to brake jobs because i had an air compressor, tools, ramp and jack/stands. Should i ask if you work on your own vehicle like pulling cylinder heads or replacing cv joints/boots?

Measure from the center of the seat tube to the chainring on his bike. Then, on your bike, hold the 52t parallel to the centerline of the bike at the distance you measured on his bike. See if it'll hit the chain stay.
Am I missing something here?

ah that didnt even cross my mind thank you :)
sometimes one misses the obvious.

I'm not "criticizing" you, just jabbing you with reality.
Should i ask if you work on your own vehicle like pulling cylinder heads or replacing cv joints/boots?
For the record, I do 95% of the work on my own cars and just changed the timing belt in my lady's Subaru last weekend.
Is horsish a word?
GENESTARWIND
04-20-12, 08:42 AM
no its not but it got the point across, and no its not reality its a personal choice depending on the want/need and you avoided my question.
Do you honestly expect every rider to have every tool necessary to work on a bike he or she rides? that even if a tool isnt needed at the time that they should own it?
Do you have the tools necessary to pull and replace piston rings? or replace valve springs, adjusting the timining on your vehicle? pull and rotate your own tires?

No, but now you've come to a point where it would be good to have those tools.

Yes, yes, yes and yes.

First, its pendejo. Stop slanging around. Second, calling someone an ******* seems like a bit of a stretch.
You asked if someone could give you some very specific information, people got snarky. You got bent out of shape because nobody knew the axle spacing for the rear right strut on a 1973 Ford Pinto. Scrod did what he always does when someone asks an obviously abstract question that starts with:
I want to do my own open heart surgery, will this fit?
You jumped to car analogies, so I'm going to discuss prostate cancer and birthday cakes.
GENESTARWIND

And i will have these tools soon, pay day isnt here yet and i wont be buying the crankset if i do until then, also that is good for you glad you can. But not everyone has that ability to do so or wants to have the ability, and that extends from cars to motorcycles to home repair ect.
I do want to work on my own bike and will soon but there was no need for your snide remark about tools to begin with.
take the L and move on Gene seriously

haha this isnt me bent out of shape, this is me having fun.
and heart surgery is a bit of an extreme analogy where as working on a vehicle is not.
abstract yes, the possibility that someone on these boards may have an answer is a possibility.
Also who drives a ford pinto really? man those things are death traps.

Ford Pinto is to cars what Schwinn is to bikes?

FWIW - I have all the necessary tools to perform heart surgery too.

if both bikes have the same bottom bracket shell width, same rear spacing and similar chain stay shape it should fit.
