As you can tell from my past few threads, I'm trying to make the most informed decision possible with respect to my first cross tubular wheel set purchase.

I've decided that I'm going aluminum. I've narrowed my choice down to a Velocity Major Tom build from either Boyd or Psimet.

Lets look at the Bitex hub option from both suppliers:

Boyd - Major Tom/Bitex Hub, *EDIT* 24/28 Black Sapim CX Ray, Brass nipples - $550

Psimet - Major Tom/Bitex Hub, 24/28 DT Comp, Brass nipples - $399

Why the price difference? I'm not trying to stir the pot here. I know both Boyd and Psimet are well respected here and I don't doubt the quality of work and customer service. I've emailed them both and have had very good communication experiences thus far. I'm just curious about the best bang for my buck.

Thanks very much.

Why the price difference?Have you ever priced CX-Rays?

The DT Comp build makes more sense to me. Or, see if he'll build it with DT Revs except for DT Comp rear drive-side.

Just a quick note. . The Black and tan is actually a 24/28 build. Since it's mainly a cross wheelset we only offer the higher spoke count option.
Carry on :-)

The CX-rays are ~$3 a piece normally compared to a standard spoke at ~$1 a spoke. Do a little math and it completely makes sense.

Thank you for all your input. My apologies Mr Boyd, could have sworn I saw 20/24 on the website, unless I confused it with the 38mm tubular which I was also looking at.

I haven't priced out the spokes....I know nothing about spokes, which is why I asked the question. But judging from the responses, the CX Rays are a better spoke?

The CX-Rays are ~30% lighter, and bladed. One of the best spokes money can buy IMO.

Worth 3 bucks a pop, I think.
