I got a 2001 52cm Conquest Pro frame - Kinesis 'Superlight' tubing, alu fork w/ steel steerer. I built it up with cheapish parts that I had lying around, some basic 32 spoke wheels and 700x32 knobbies (Twister Pros), ATAC pedals. All together, the bike weighs just a hair under 22 pounds, which strikes me as surprisingly heavy for a bike w/ an alu frame and fork, but I'm a roadie and this is my first cross bike, so maybe this is normal for cross bikes? Anyway, I was curious to know what other peoples Conquest Pros weigh...is this just a heavy frameset or are my parts to blame?

I don't have a conquest pro, but I do have a 'cross bike that weighs just under 20lbs, for your reference. It is a steel Surly Crosscheck with S&S break-apart frame couplers. Matching steel fork. Bontrager RaceLite wheels with Michelin 21x700C road tires. Ultegra triple cranks with matching shifters, chainrings, 12x27 rear cassette, and front/rear derailleurs. No-name aluminum road handlebars. Cane Creek headset. Easton mountain carbon seatpost, Sella Italia Flite Ti saddle, and eggbeater pedals. Also two Bianchi-green water bottle cages. BTW, it's a 46cm frame.

The Excel Sports catalog gives a total weight of 4.6 lbs for the frame and fork. If your bike weighs in at 22 lbs, then you should be able to dump a few pounds with better wheels, lighter tires, single-ring set-up, etc. My cx bike weighs about 20 lbs total, despite the 7 lb frameset weight.
