Southwest Regional Rides and Events - Scottsdale ride suggestions

I'm going to be in Scottsdale next weekend with some time Saturday afternoon. I've arranged a rental road bike & am looking for some suggestions for a 25 -40 mile loop from the area of the Westin Hotel. Thanks in advance, Andy

I'd probably take Shea out through Fountain Hills to the Beeline (AZ-87). You can come back the same way, or go up Palisades and come back Rio Verde.

That said, Saturday afternoon you'll have traffic...

Thanks for the response and information. I have been scouring the Google maps, mostly looking North. I looked at the route you mentioned to the East. Anywhere away from traffic and city is good for me. Down here wind is our version of hills so I'm not sure how I'll actually do with real hills. I usually ride in the 14 to 16 to 18 mph range, faster with the wind slower with headwinds and up bridges - our other version of hills. If that would be good for you and we could meet up or start out from the Westin that would be great, I would like a riding partner. Andy

I want to thank Tim for his information and help. When I got to Scottsdale things got very busy with the meeting I was attending. I got in 10 miles early in the cool morning on the running route the hotel has mapped out. When the afternoon meeting broke up I was able to get out for my ride. Originally planned on going North then to Rio Verde. Traffic was too much so I changed and worked my way out to Fountain Hills. For a Florida flatland guy those hill were much more than just hills to me. I ended up with another 33 for the afternoon getting back just after dusk. If it is ok on this forum I want to give a shout out & thanks to Arizona Outdoor Adventurees for setting me up on such a nice rental bike, a Trek Madone 5.2 set up with my same brand pedals and all the necessary stuff in the saddle kit, delivered to and picked up from my hotel for me, thanks AOA!! Op, glad you had a great trip. It's too bad I didn't see this post in time. Im always looking for new riding buddies...I just actually moved back to the area and live off of shea blvd. Aztimm pm me if u want to ride sometime...
