Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Tried my new cycling shorts today.

AKA: My first ride with these things on.

AKA: WTF happened to my junk?!? Like a frightened turtle.

Wasn't even cold, just not used to the compaction instead of easy breezy boxers. Anyway, not as nerve wracking as I thought. Although I didn't waste any time closing the garage when I got back. :innocent:

The scarred turtle effect is just fight or flight human reaction to adrenaline.
I too have recently just popped my shorts cherry.....was always covering up with baggies over the bibs.
Still a little bashful in lycra.

Just watch out for the chafing condition. I was mis-adjusted one ride and didn't pay attention to my body saying "Ahem, hey, YO!" and regretted it for a couple days.

Those shorts are still in my drawer. Purchased on sale this Winter. I struggle with how they look when your away from your bicycle.
Until I get over that, I'll keep my rides below 70 miles. I heard that is the unwritten cut-off distance for not wearing cycling shorts.

I wear mine on 10 mile rides, but i look sexy in mine...lol

Some long distance bike tourists don't wear shorts ever. In 2008 I shared a hostel with an older guy who rode from Pittsburgh to Meyersdale on the GAP in jeans and boxers. That's 115 miles. I was shocked. Especially when he said he was going to ride back the next day.

You could always wear gym shorts or basketball shorts over the cycling gear if you are modest.
