What do you guys think about this site/service? http://www.thefixieshack.com/. I am looking to buy my first fixie and I don't want to buy anything too expensive. I don't want to build one on my own because I don't feel comfortable doing so. Does anyone have any experience with this service? Can you direct me to a better place to buy one? I actually found this on Craigslist http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/bik/2972909550.html Also, I was looking into the EightInch Scrambler V3 and it seemed like a solid bike. Any thoughts on that one.

Finally a bike shop that gets it right. The frame, wheel, and handle bar color are the most important things when it comes to building bikes!

I bought one a while ago. James "The Grizz" is really knowledgable about fixies. He even taught me how to barspin.

They're typical budget conversions done up in wacky colors. Meh.

Of the options you listed thus far, the Scrambler is your best bet.

It was, but as soon as the bike came into contact with cardboard it became as brittle as glass. So it is not of good quality now.

I'm not sure what's more entertaining about your reply here Mr. 151 posts.

That you attacked frequent posters that, while we do like to heckle people who deserve it and rabblerouse a little, offer at least valid and constructive criticism of bikes.
That you decided he should avoid "those bikes" when he wasn't asking about a series of which you gave any information other than a plural pronoun. Those? Or those? Or maybe those?
You immediately shilled bikesdirect to a poster who said he didn't know what the hell he was doing enough to feel confident working, or building his own bike.

So here is your special .gif. Note, this is just for you deadsouls.

^^ This.

Another budget minded, first fixed gear bike would be the Windsor Hour (found at Bikes Direct). Personally, I would stay away from that site you posted. What exactly is your budget?

I'd be skeptical and wary of someone that will charge $ 175 for a bike consultation ? They might as well order the parts and build it for you too. And in that case, the LBS is where you ought to go for a name brand bike. For the most part Bikes Direct gets a decent shout out because the parts are relatively inexpensive and they have put together some decent bikes that are fairly priced for what you get. I bought from another internet bike distributor, That bike had some issues, but after tweaking it and adjusting it properly it's not too terribly a bad bike. Others may scoff at it, but I also paid less than I would on a similar bike and wound up with similar quality. Anyway, you get what you pay for and if you want higher end components on a higher end frame, you'll have to pay for the costs and enough profit for these folks to have a livelihood in the business. I don't mind that so much, but you can definitely look at a lot of bikes on the internet and the consensus of pricing and come away with a list of components that'll be a higher end bike. Turning socket wrenches and hex wrenches is most of the work, Things like installing a star nut use a hammer and drift to tap that in. Outside of that the bottom bracket and spoke tightening/wheel truing are something you may feel more comfy letting the LBS do that, so add at least labor for that. They are pretty reasonable for price too. The more you do for yourself, the more you can save and maybe even find some exceptional deals. Even the name brand bikes are going to have profit built in for components that are quality, yet closer to entry level. Hope this helps, research well and choose one. I think some of those that went Bikes Direct sold those and moved on to higher end bikes, but there are also many that continue to ride the one's they bought. I'm still on mine after 2 years and after the initial adjustments and break in, will ride it until it's dead.

In that price range, The Kilto TT is very well liked here. It too can be found over at Bikes Direct - check it out. On the low end of your budget there is the Nashbar Hounder at $199 - arguably the best sub $200 FG/SS. In these cases, I'd recommend to go with the high end of your budget and you can get a pretty good bike.

Oh god, how could I have forgot? 151 posts means i'm not a true cyclist and i'm not elite enough to post on here, you sir sound like a huge toolbag. I said 'those' because it was either those fixieshack bikes, or the scrambler. I don't see why that matters, it just makes you look like a big cry baby. Also, bikesdirect bikes come assembled fyi, (besides the front wheel? but any bicycle you order on the internet is going to be like that.) Try harder to defend your little buddies on here, because your whole argument is invalid clown.

Also, i don't see how the OP "deserves to be heckled". is it because he is new here? I think you should stop being an internet elitist and go out and actually ride your bike.
