Southern California - Performance Store in Ontario

I didn't know they have been open for about a month, heard on the radio last week that the official grand opening was on Satruday. Wife and I stopped by and got 2x $20 gift cards.

But they are there now, behind the In&Out next to the Ontario Mills.

Yes, for me actually "too" close. My wife worries how close to my job this store is. If the 10 Freeway wasn't there, I could probably walk there in 1 minute.

Oh, by the way, Tuesdays from Noon to 2 they have additional discounts if you walk in and ask for it. I think it's an additional 5%. :innocent:

For a chain store, I wouldn't imagine it would be much different. I could be wrong.
I'm not a big LBS guy, but this place is close to work, the prices are good, and they seem to have a little bit of everything.

I just went for a visit. Nothing more than the Corona store. More shoes I'd say but helmet selection, one of each model? :eek: That included the display!:roflmao2:

Same bikes pretty much. I myself would more than likley only go for a shoe sale, tubes, chain, water bottles.

The GP4000's were $75! :eek::notamused::twitchy:...I used to go there for tires but I guess I'm staying online now with a savings of $73 per pair at PBK.

It's hard to rationalize the markup on accessories but sometimes you gotta have something... right now.

I like performance and they are close but still prefer giving my business to Competitive Edge and the new Mark & Dave's Bike Shop - both in Rancho Cucamonga.

Exactly, I will probably stop by from time to time to pick up something I forgot for my commute home, water bottle, tube, etc etc.

PBS has a price match policy. They matched Bike Island's price on the Park PCS-10 my wife bought for me a couple of years ago. They also frequently have better prices online and you get those prices if you ask.

Things I like from them... Smartwool socks/defeet socks. Tubes. Patch kits. Cheap roller (I got mine at less than $100 after tax on one of mix ups...:P). Bottle cage stuff. Actually quite a few things readily available. Actually broke down and purchased Ultegra DI2 stuff yesterday online. With the sales and performance points... beats e-bay price.

To a degree, yes. I got quotes around from LBS on Ultegra DI2 and it came somewhere between $1500-1700. After all the discount/etc... it will come about roughly $400 cheaper for me to get it from performance. I like LBS but I don't think I get 25% more service from LBS than my LOCAL performance bikes... When I had a crash on my bike, brought it for repair on the shop where I bought my bike from and they slapped me fees on installing tube/tire, etc on top of whatever they charged me with ... It pretty much lost my trust level on LBS mentality... (And this is VERY reputable LBS...)
Quite frankly, they lost a repeat customer who probably will dump $4-7k on next bike for over petty $20 or so they tried to charge which was just... ridiculous. I didn't say anything and walked out.
I still go and pick things up at LBS (such as Shoes, etc which you really need to try on). But for most of parts, it's no different than performance bike for me (short of better bikes).

I admit, I still buy some things at the one Performance shop I trust (a friend works there and so did Chris Horner when it was Hal's Cycle Center) when my LBS doesn't have what I need in stock. But it's a ten mile ride to get there. I live in a neighborhood with three local bike shops on one boulevard (Adams Avenue) all within a mile of my house. I know the owners and the workers and prefer to keep the money in the local economy. Adams Avenue Bicycles sponsors a cycling club of which I am a member; members receive 10% off all products and services. I recently replaced worn out wheels and drivetrain on my primary commuter to the tune of $500 there. I put $300 down and the owner is giving me time to come up with the balance. The new wheels are bulletproof. I know the person who built them and that I can trust them at 46 mph descending 14% Texas St. in the dark without touching my brakes.

I can trust all three shops in my area not rip to me a new one for anything. If they did, I wouldn't be coming back either.
