Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - stuff that stopped working with new "upgrade": April*2012

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have the same problems...plus, no video/image icons....no extra smilies when I click "more".

Works ok with google chrome but IE isn't working properly, even with the compatibility icon at top of browser.

Now there seems to be a 2 video limit. I was already peeved about the 10 image limit, which includes video thumbnails and smilies as well as pictures. Now there's even more restrictions on posting images. :(

I'm sorry to say, I'm a bit reluctant to want to renew my paid membership with these restrictions, especially when there are other cycling forums without a paid option that don't have these limits. ;)

The site has been slow as molasses all day for me, along with all the previously mentioned glitches, also clicking on the logo does nothing now in FF, used to take you to the forum index page.

Also, every time I try to post a "quick reply" I get this message popup. (attached pic)

(vBulletin sure isn't what it used to be)

Just noticed that every post I've seen since the upgrade that used to have a video embedded no longer does. All that shows now on those pre-upgrade posts is the direct link to the video.

Ditto no smiles, no text formatting (bold, underline etc), in fact, nothing but type and read basic seems to be working.Using explorer and windows 7Did notice very early on a page that had a whole bunch of new tools available above the post window, but that's been gone since just after the begining.

Let's see...it asks if I want to move away from the page when I switch tabs in FF, doesn't refresh the page/tab when you post in quick reply, no email notifications of PM's. Does basically the same thing in Chrome. Don't use IE (except as a last resort!)

What happened???

All my formatting stuff is gone. I can't do bolding, underlining, italics. I can't indent. I can't change the colour of my text. I can't select a smilie. And even more frustrating ... I can't post pics!!

Was this an update gone awry?

When are all the things I need to make my posts coming back?

Even the text font when I'm typing my replies looks different (although that's not a bad thing).

Won't that wipe out useful saved stuff from other websites ?

Same issues for me as mentioned above by others.

login doesn't work right. The little box that says user name doesn't clear when you put your cursor in it, so in my case I end up enterring "Roodyusername" and of course an error message follows. Somewhat annoying.

Even worse--the cursor on the Reply box has a nasty habit of disappearing. Actually, it doesn't even show up when I first click on the box, until I start typing. This makes it hard to edit posts, which believe it or not I do edit from time to time.

I'm also having the problems others have posted--weird and unusable "Reply with quote" screens, extraneous white spaceat the bottom of the page, and so forth.

Please help!

I'm using IE--latest version on home computer and probably an older version at work. And before some geek suggests it--no I cn't swithch to a different browser, since I'm not the boss of the computers I use. Also, I used to like Foxfire but now it's about as bad as IE, And I refuse to give Google any more insight into my life than they already have, so Chrome is out.

Besides IE works fine on the other sites I visit, so I don't even want to change it just for one site--even if it is my soon to ex-favorite site.

Why should I have to go to that bother on just this one website? The inconveniences add up until it's no longer fun to come here. I hate to say it because I love the content here, but Internet Brands sucks.

I have no formatting buttons in any view of Reply to post, including this one. If I have to type in all that code by hand, I'm outta here. Call me lazy, but I just don't like typing all those brackets and slashes and so forth. And every couple months it some other major glitch. I feel like I'm back in 1991 on all the BBs and user lists.

not having a problem in chrome. briefly yesterday my settings link (how I access my subscribed threads) disappeared, but it's now back and working again.

Edit: Yeah spy works for me. My weird issue is that sometimes I edit in the quick view and sometimes it takes me to the advanced view, but that's not really a problem. Sorry for the crappy formatting, just wanted to test out the various buttons.

Doesn't anybody at BF test this stuff before you roll it out?

It's just plain rude to put out broken code, and force your customers to find the problems for you.

I pay to be a member of this web site. I expect to not be used as a beta tester for hinky code on a regular basis.

Cache clearing does not affect cookies or passwords so you can start there with little harm. It's all the fun stuff on the page that could possibly be cached, it's trying to send commands to the server when the server has been giving out a new version of those commands since the upgrade.

Also a refresh, shift+f5, apple+shift+r could work, but cache clearing seems to work the best.

Also note, IE is horrible for most boards, try chrome, it's been dead solid for me (if a little ram hungry). But it's a small price to pay for encrypted memory sandboxing and syncing built in across all my computers.

Let's try to keep all issues discussion in this thread, please, as tech is monitoring this thread. That will keep them contained in a single location so we can keep track of what's been fixed and what hasn't yet.

Maybe a rollback is in order, until BF tech tests and validates the code before putting it back into production.

Further information: IB had a fire yesterday, which is a major part of the reason that things are so messed up. The issues aren't limited to BF, so bear with us. They are still assessing the total damage systemwide, and I'm actually surprised that we're still up, given the circumstances.

This! Perhaps a test board is in order here also...I know VB lets license holders have one live board and a test board (there's a reason for that)...still very slow loading today, everywhere else I go on the net is normal speeds. Did the fire get to the web server? :/

I don't know, I did say that they are still assessing.

Typical of Internet Brands. Let your cuctomers be the code testers, require a programming degree to use the program, and they don';t even have the courtesy to respond to their coustomer's compplints, although it's been several hours. I guess they figure that we provide our own contentfor free, so we should provide our own engineering also.

Well, 6 hours later, I still don't have formatting options in any editing mode. I still have about a foot of white space between the last post on the page and the "Reply to Thread" box. Different computer, still using IE--

I've been typing in the code by hand since yesterday morning because all my handy little buttons that do it for me are GONE. Good thing I know some of the code, but it is a pain to have to try to remember it all. Not impressed. I was hoping my buttons would be back this morning, but they are not.

I have been responding to complaints, I'm here, aren't I? You did see the post about the fire yesterday? I've been a bit slower than usual, since I just got out of the hospital this morning, myself. As soon as we have something to tell you, we will.

Issues fixed so far:

Max Image nunmbers and max number of videos embedded was restored to original spec. (10 and 5, respectively), and embed code has been fixed.

IE compatibility is being worked on.

I do see that to view the emoticons, I have to "go advanced" whereas I believe they were viewable before in the quick reply mode. I could be wrong but either way, I got the basic smilies down without the table. ...see? :D

But video, image icons are once again present. ;)

That does still seem to be an issue, although in the Lower Left of the photo dialog from the display, there is a "Standard Uploader" link. That seems ti work better from via the editor button. If you go advanced and use the older attachment manager, that works as it used to.

I see over a hundred + pages of posts, so there hasn't been any data loss. Things seem a tiny bit slow this morning, so we may be experiencing some of the effects of the fire event the day before yesterday.
