Hi,
I recently purchased a used Lady's Giant Aluxx 6061 Extralight LaFree 24 volt electric bike at an auction. Unfortunately it is missing the charger and key (it was priced very low) so I'm now trying to find a charger and figure out a solution to the key issue. I know this is an older model that is no longer made. I took the bike to a local bike shop that doesn't deal at all with electric bikes and they contacted Giant on my behalf but Giant said they didn't have any of these parts and couldn't help. I would really appreciate any help or advice anyone could provide on where to look for battery chargers. I have found a few chargers listed online that just indicate they are compatible with Giant LaFree bikes but I'm wondering if they would work for this particular model. I've included the links below. I'm also wondering what's the best way to deal with the missing key issue. Should I just take it to a local locksmith? I'd also love to just learn anything about this model if anyone else has this bike.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice!

It sounds like it was stolen. I guess nothing you can do about that...

As far as the key goes, open the battery up and see how it connects. Likely it's a very simple mechanism and you can take the lock out and rewire it to operate without a key. I'd do that first and see if the battery is any use. With used batteries it's a total crap shoot whether they are worth hanging onto. Then take it from there. Don't put money into it unless you know it's worth salvaging.

A neighbor has just dropped off a Lafree that someone else tore apart. Wants me to see if I can put it back together. Looks like the key has two wires coming out of it under a little rubbery cap on the end opposite of the key insertion. Just jump those two wires and it should be fine. Looks like you may have to turn on the key to remove the battery though. I can't tell since it is all apart but the lock mechanism has a small rod that drops down a bit when the key is turned. A locksmith could probably fix you right up. Batteries don't like sitting around uncharged so these are no good by now.
