Having a hard time tracking down information on Merciers?

Taking a peek at this one, but I'm not really sure of its worth?
Fits alright, but I'm not sure 180$ (asking price) is right.


The components include:
Tubes Alleges Special Pro
Simplex derailleurs/shifters
Nervar crankset
Lyotard pedals

If anyone has info, please feel free to share.

Very nice bike but not a good buy unless you can do all off the work yourself. Can you breakdown and service cotter pinned bb possibaby French or Raliegh and rework a set of modern alloys on it.?

You have the entry level Mercier there and probably a mid seventies offering. If the bicycle is in good shape, both cosmetically and mechanically, then $180.00 is not too far off of the mark, although the asking price is a wee bit high, in my opinion.

I say high for where I live, which is in Thunder Bay. If you live in a major city in Ontario or east, then the value is fair. If you live west of Ontario, the price is a bit high, unless you live in Vancouver. If you live in Vancouver, the price would be about what I would expect.

A comparison I like to make is how much a new bike of entry level quality might cost. For example, a Trek 1.1 costs $700, so I'd be willing to pay nearly that for a desired vintage bike as long as it compares favorably. That's speaking as a buyer with a preference for old school. As a re-seller, I need the price to be 20-25% of the expected selling price.
