I am in a fortunate position this Summer. Due to Uncle Sam's unusual restrictions, I get to take this Summer off from university and am looking for something to do that I can work around the tasks of packing up a house, moving, and unpacking same house. I can't really take days and tour, but really want to spend some real quality time in the saddle. Anybody have any suggestions? I live in NE Ohio and am open to trying new bike related things.

...for what its worth, I'm not real interested in mowing anybody's lawn, painting, or any other friendly "chores" that might be offered. :D

Wow, that's pretty awesome. I'd say to just pick something you've always wanted to do and go for it. Let your imagination be your guide and enjoy! :)

Isn't there a bunch of wineries in you area? I drove from Cleaveland to Niagara Falls once and remembered passing a bunch of wineries when we took some of the backroads. Take a day in the saddle and do a winery tour, you may need someone to pick you up by the time you finish but from what I remember you would see some nice county side.

Take up Ninjitsu so, the next time somebody starts a thread about Stealth Cyclists, you can shed an entirely unexpected light on the subject.

Unfortunately, this is the summer he can't practice his snow riding.

Well...If you can't take any time to do a tour (either supported or unsupported), I guess you are stuck riding relatively close to home. You should know more about the opportunities in that regard than most of us.

A friend and I will be coming through there in late June/early July with our bikes if you feel the need to take a couple of RAAM veterans out for Sunday social?

Become a part-time bike messenger? Start your own tour service? Pedicab? Cleveland seems to already have plenty of these, but I'm sure you can put an interesting spin on it.

What do you like to do outdoors besides biking? I like to mix road riding up with riding trails. I am a birder and on my trail ride days I often bring binoculars, use my ears, and stop and watch the birdies.
You could host a Clyde with two knee replacements. He's coming out to the Akron area in late July.

Are you going to be up for riding your bike a little ways when we come through to see you? Don't say yes if you're not. ;)

I should. Since I have an organized ride in mid-May, I should be ready for a short ride with you. However, if you come on a weekday, I might need to be at work later. Sooner or later I need to go back to my job. :(

Cool, of our schedule won't be set until the end of the race so it'll be hit and miss. We'll figure out a schedule as the time gets nearer.

Bike camp. Not for long periods of time due to your other demands but over nighters. Get a hammock and a tarp, some other items, and ride somewhere in the morning, setup and relax (read, etc) and then ride back the next day.

That nearly killed Stoutie last year. Don't kill Stoutie.

Neil, you are of course welcome to land at my place if you wish? Or at the very least, I am hoping we could actually ride together? I'm as slow as always, but riding is hopefully my primary focus this summer.

Haha, I'm glad a couple of people got that reference.
It's a line my goofy friends and I use whenever we're chasing one another on a ride.

The plan was to ride with iforgetmename in a charity ride, but I can't do it and the sponsor won't accept me as a volunteer since I live ten hours away. Anyway if I do make it out I'll ride with you Peter_C. Just don't kill Stoutie, please, when you ride together.

Stoutdog is upset because I'm now as tall as he is.

Thanks for the ideas, unfortunately or not, "we" determined that will take up most of my time in the coming few months, we're having a house built and are so friggin' psyched! I see much cardboard and tape in my immediate future.

One suggestion, for house construction I'd go with some slightly sturdier materials than cardboard and tape. Just remember what happened to the three little piggies! ;);)

or at least make sure you use some good quality duct tape. don't go cheaping out on the tape with no name walmart brand junk, now.
It is your time for relaxation, why not just do some light riding for fun ? Although the busking and the Ninjitsu sound like good ideas to .
Failing all that i have,
2 computers that need to be built
1 that needs a repair
my new dog needs to be trained
floors need a wash
cat needs a bath (bring chain mail suit)
some yard work that needs to be done apart from mowing the lawn.
and i have to help replace 4 shockys on a Magna in a few weeks
Take your pick and enjoy :) :roflmao2:
