Hallo everybody,

I am thinking of getting a set of Mavic Cosmic Carbone wheels (clincher) but I want to have some opinions about them first.

Obviously they are less comfortable then wheels with low rims, but whats the effect on the rider after 100+ kilometers (60+ miles) compared to normal, 32-spoke wheels with low rims?

And most important for me: are they strong? I am certainly not light but I ride normal 32-spoke wheels with low rims without problems. Does this mean that I can ride the Cosmic Carbone's as well?

I am asking because climbing wheels are not suited for riders above 80 kilos (160 lbs). These wheels are not for climbing, but I want to be sure before I buy. I am 180 lbs. Could that be a problem for these wheels?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Regards,
Timo

They are fast wheels. They are comfortable and more than strong enough for you. You can use them for any type of racing.

They are Mavic box-section rims with the carbon "aero" section added to it. Basically, they are low-spoke count Open Pros with the aero fairing. Nice wheels but really too pricey for what they are.

If you want light, strong wheels then the Ksyrium SSC SL's are it. I think someone is selling them on this board for cheap.

If I could find them cheap, I would buy a set of Cosmic Carbones. They look cool and are fast. Good crit wheel.

I owned a pair and whenever I stood on a short climb and pushed hard they wobbled - be warned (by the way, I weigh approx 81kg)

i am 185, 6ft tall and those rims are fine for you. i have used them although i ultimately trust my mavic open pro's because they seem to be the most bomb-proof of all the rims i've tried. these roads just keep getting worse and worse.

Thanks for the input guys.

Guess the choice of wheels compared to the price also depends on the continent.

The HED website sells the Jet 60 wheels for 660 USD a set. Here in Holland I pay EURO 1247 thats 1180.00 USD for that same set. A ridiculous difference. For the price of one set in Holland I can buy almost 2 sets in the States!!!

A set of Mavic Carbones costs EURO 880 here in Holland, so basically they're EURO 367 cheaper compared to the HEDs. Thats almost 350 USD (European prices takes from the same shop).

Just my 2 cents,
Timo
