Touring - Where's a good place to park in Carmel for 5 days?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Planning a light coastal tour leaving from Carmel, CA. Can anyone suggest a good safe place to park a car for 5 days? Free, Fees, are all fine.
Thanks for your suggestions
I'd suggest checking couchsurfing.org or warmshowers.org for hosts who would let you park a car there.
Parking on the street might get you towed. Carmel isn't known to be all that tourist friendly.

Might be easier to find parking in Monterey than Carmel. They have a parking garage page (http://monterey.org/en-us/departments/parking/publicparkinggarageslots.aspx) that lists (fee) lots operated by the city. The ones near popular tourist destinations (ex: the Cannery Row Garage) may or may not allow overnight parking. You can probably call the city Parking Division (831.646.3953) and get more info. Carmel is only a short bike ride from Monterey...
Thanks for your suggestions Raybo and Sstorked!

Parking in the town itself is tricky, unless you know someone who will let you park in front of their house far enough away from the business district. The Carmel Rancho area just at the bottom of the hill off of Rt. 1 and Rio Road has a lot of parking lots, but depends on the businesses and their allowance for multi-day parking. They need to have a park and ride lot or one for people who are biking into Big Sur, You could call Bay Bikes or Carmel Bicycle at the Barnyard Shopping Center and ask them about multi day parking.
FYI: I contacted the police dept in Carmel and they said the City has a 48 hr parking restriction in one spot and that includes paid parking. They did recommend Monterrey Regional Airport, and their long term parking rate is $10/day.
