I'm doing the Ship to Shore Century (tour de cure) in Long Beach. Nice route that takes you from Long Beach over the Vincent Thomas Bridge to San Pedro, Palos Verdes Pennisnsula, and back to Long Beach, a abig loop of Seal Beach and Huntington Beach and back to Long Beach

That sounds like such a cool ride! Always wanted to go over that bridge on a bike. I'm gonna have to do that next year. Never heard about it until just now.

Going to do a short beach ride. A nasty ear infection knocked me out for the last week and a half. First time I've taken pain killers in 30 years.

I rode the trail last week. I wasn't expecting stables and greenhouses.

I'm doing the Tour de Cure "Ship to Shore" century ride also. Picked up my packet and jersey last night.

Today, I'm going to play with Garmin routes, and if I can figure it out, will put the Tour de Cure route into my 500 so I won't get lost this time. I seem to miss one or two turns every century ride I do. I'm sort of glad that all the hills are early in the ride. Will make doing the century fairly easy.

Probably won't be riding much at all. Maybe Saturday early morning for few hours on hill repeats.

Last hard ride before BA. Starting at the Mill Creek Ranger Station and riding to Onyx Summit. I think it's about 62 miles RT.

I will be towing the 2 year old this afternoon on the local MUP. So I'll be a somewhat speedy chicane...

Saturday and Sunday, I have no idea yet. Anyone been on Portola in Irvine? Wondering what the construction is like and don't want to find out by getting a f**t on my bike.

I will ride The 56 bike trail to the coast and ride south on the 101 toward Torrey Pines Drop into La Jolla and up Mt Soledad Via Capri to the cross and back home (Rancho Penasquitos) the same way.

Doing Alpine Challenge next week. After my performance on the San Diego Gran Fondo I am pretty confident that I am going to be very slow.

Hill repeats on Sunday or a Road ride into Ramona have not decided yet

Even better; I'm doing it with a small group and one of the spouses is sagging w/ food and beverages.

I'll be riding the Long Beach Tour de Cure as well but the 61 mile route. I've never ridden in Long Beach or Palos Verdes before and crossing the bridges will be cool! I wanted to do the century but the other only one I've done is the Amtrak last September. I wasn't sure I could manage this one.

I was out there a few weeks ago. When I was there the construction went from Jeffery to just before Portola Springs. It was down to one lane with no shoulder for quite a while. Very sketchy with those big trucks that frequent that area. Now I either take Irvine all the way out to Bake (which is generally where I'm going) or I turn down Jeffery from Portola to Irvine.

Well, I guess I'll be avoiding most of Portola then. Thanks.

Yeah, that's been torn up for quite some time. Irvine Blvd usually isn't too busy - it's the next street over and runs parallel to Portola. Since I usually have to take Portola Springs -> Modjeska -> Irvine Blvd to get to Bake Parkway and parts beyond anyway, it's not much of a big deal to avoid Portola altogether.

I know, I live in Irvine. I use Portola from the toll road (Peters Canyon) to toll road as a barometer of my fitness. I guess I have to find a new test route. I just drive up there once a month and have no need to be there this time of month in my car. Guess I'll be trying new route(s) this weekend...stupid construction. :D

Tour de Cure "Ship to Shore" RideWithGPS computer file created from the queue sheet that was handed out to me with my bib number last night. You can upload it to your Garmin and use to follow the route. This is the century route. I think the others are the same, just that they stop sooner, or don't do the Palos Verde loop. I have the rest stops labeled as POIs, but am not totally sure of the location. The mileage should be within 0.2 of a mile from where they are marked.

San Gabriel River Trail, Saturday. Will be on a 88? Club Fuji, red, with yellow and blue decals. First time back on a road bike since 8/10/11. Hands still hurt, back and neck sore. Bent the frame from my Trek 1400 so i am using parts off it on the Fuji. Its only part converted to 105s, just enough to take a very slow ride. I hope to make it to Seal Beach. Took it on a short shake down ride today, rides a lot smoother than the Trek.

I went to check it out in the car yesterday. Right after reading this thread I was at the Home Depot on Sand Canyon (buying yellow spray paint to mask the source of my DIY bucket pannier) and decided to go up and check it out. Even driving in a car just between Sand Canyon and Jeffrey was sketchy. I almost got doored by 2 different construction workers!

Yea, I drove it today to see how far along it is. It should be almost done, and it isn't even close...I won't go back for a few months as the only thing accomplished was the light installed at Paragon, or whatever that new street is.

I took a route today thinking I added 10-15 km on to what I did easily (to see what I need to work on...) last weekend; I didn't even add 6 km... :notamused:

I really wish I would have seen this. I wasn't carrying the queu sheet with me and missed a turn in Seal Beach. Don't think it took too much off of my ride, but still. I can in right around 95 miles. Luckily when I got to Seal Beach Blvd, I saw the riders going across PCH.
I did much better this year than last year. Last year I had to stop a couple of times going up PV dr West and I felt horrible after the ride. This year, I pretended I was cruising up GMR and made it to the top. I felt pretty good the entire time. Got a flat coming back down PCH along the Seal Beach Naval Weopons station, but met up with a couple of other guys and finished.

I was in El Centro Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday I got there later and started to ride late afternoon around 3:40 pm. Temps were in the mid 90's, elevation was sea level, and wind was not an issue. The temps got to me and I actually felt dizzy and I only went 8 miles before I decided to turn back.

Sunday was different. I started early like 6 am and the temps were in the low 60's. I went north to Brawley and back mostly on Old Highway 111. Coming back south, I saw a few riders and one small group going north on Hwy 111. I got my 34 miles in and the temps were still feeling like the 70's.

Some driver on Dogwood Road played chicken with me and swerved at me. What do you expect, its El Centro.
