My mom wants to buy a bike to cruise around on, and maybe ride to work and back a few times (6 miles one way). I talked her out of buying a bike from Walmart, and I found this one for her. It's the cheapest bike that looked decent, and I read online that it was a decent bike/brand.

So $30 for a bike good enough for her needs seems pretty decent. We called the guy and he said it DOES need new tires, "27 and a quarter" is what my dad said to me. I'll assume this means 27 x 1 1/4"? Does it look like that in the picture?
My question is: for $30 + $35 more for tires, is this a good deal? We're going this weekend to check out the bike, and assuming everything is alright with the bike, should we get it? And my second question is: what all should I check for when going over the bike? True wheels, cracks in the frame near the welds, shifting works, what else? I doubt they would haul around their kid in a bike that's going to asplode, but I just want to make sure.
