Is there any good riding in El Centro or Salton Sea? Or just any kind of riding. Anybody been there?

Roads are a tad rough. The Anza Borrego can get really angry and throw wind in your face for hours. It can get hot as well. I have ridden it a few times in a group ride. The area between Augua Caliente Hot Springs and Ocotillo Wells is pretty sparse with cars and just outside of El Centro. There is allot of flat road and it it can be quiet and beautiful. It can also be windy and challenging

A group from BF did the Stagecoach Century in Ocotillo in 2007. Nice scenery but it was cold. http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php/260693-Stagecoach-Jan-13-2007-Pix-and-Ride-Reports?highlight=stagecoach

The organizer, Shadowtour, used to do a Salton Sea century but they moved it. The route might still be on their website. http://www.shadowtour.com/

I found this from the Imperial Valley Velo Club web site:

Monday Wendesday Friday 6:00 a.m. El Centro. Start at Advanced Eye Care, just west of LaBrucherie on Ross Rd in El Centro. Ride goes west on Ross then south. It's about 19 miles. 18 mph.

Saturday 7:00 a.m. Calexico. Start at Starbucks in Calexico, corner of Highway 111 and Highway 98. Route varies. Sometimes goes to Holtville, sometimes to Brawley. Large group means the ride breaks up by ability. Distance is anwhere from 20 to 50 miles.

Sunday 7:00 a.m. El Centro. Start at Del Taco on Ocotillo Drive in El Centro. Route goes up Highway 111 to Brawley and back for 37 miles. Cyclists can turn around whenever they like for a shorter ride. Often merges with the Calexico group.

Sunday 7:00 a.m. Calexico. Start at Starbucks in Calexico, corner of Highway 111 and Highway 98. Goes to Brawley and back on Highway 111.

Due to time constraints, I'll probably do the Sunday route even though its not Sunday and not with the group.
