It happens about 2:40 into the video. Looked bad but no injuries needing hospitalization.

Driver was ID'ed, claimed the car had been stolen.

Bad day for him to run over a cyclist.

"He was arrested on suspicion of possession of heroin, felon in possession of ammunition, violation of probation and felony hit-and-run."

I'm not convinced it was an accident.

I wonder if the hit-and-run being listed last is an indication of the order of importance? :)

Glad they got him. I have to look at it again, but from the angle of the impact, it almost looks as if he hit the first rider intentionally.

This really should be tried as a hate crime.

This really should be tried as a hate crime.
Oh No! That would require that cyclists be a protected class. That way lies P&R.

I think a simple attempted murder charge should suffice here, especially if he is convicted on all counts and the sentences run consecutively. This person has forfeited the right to live among humans, in my opinion.

Thank goodness the riders survived the incident.

They make bike, dope and cars every day, individuals ..... not so much.

To my mind it was attempted murder!!

I hope those guys are ok! Maybe we will all get cameras for a time... that should stop this kind of craziness.

Thank goodness neither one of them was seriously injured.

I also saw this story on the National Newscast this evening. The commentator pointed out that the increasing use of video cams by cyclists is helping law enforcement deal with driving infractions such as this. He reminded drivers to be alert and aware because their actions may be recorded.

The timing of this incident and the fact that it hit National News was suprising to me and my wife. We had just recently discussed the growing trend of running a video during rides. She questioned why anyone would want to watch a video of a ride they just took until I explained the potential advantage video of an accident would have in a legal dispute.

Charge attempted murder, settle for aggravated assault, add it to the other charges, and put the ass away for about 10 years.

As usual, the comments are stupid. Like rolling a stop sign is JUST CAUSE for this.....

If it took out both riders it was anything but an accident.

I picked up a camera (Contour Roam) to clip on my bike, it is fun recording some rides. I still occasionally mount it to the bars to record an unusual ride, this weekend I recorded a ride on the Cape Cod Canal MUP.

The rest of the time I mount it to my seatpost and record traffic coming up behind me. Maybe someday I or my family will use the evidence it accumulates in a lawsuit, I hope not but who knows. It's simple to erase the memory after a ride if nothing is worth keeping. You not only see licensee plates clearly you see faces clearly. The message that "cameras are everywhere" is starting to get out and maybe that will help put an end to this (mis)behavior.

1) Ran a stop sign
2) No helmet on second rider seen in the video. Possible he took it off. I take it back. You can see it as he falls.
3) 'Hate crime' is just stupid. It's a crime anyway plain and simple.
4) No excuse for running someone over.
5) Hope the driver enjoys his time in jail. Hope they get some nice alone time with their new friends.
As I always say, it doesn't matter if you are right or wrong. You get hit, you lose.

How can anyone make the assumption they tried to hit them? Maybe they were texting on a cell phone and unintentionally moved to the right. Maybe they tried to hit them. Who knows. You can't tell anything from that video other than a driver hit a bike rider. You can't even tell they fled the scene. Those are the facts present in the video. Anything else is speculation on our part.

If it took out both riders it was anything but an accident.

If the driver was looking down while texting, he may not have realized there was anything on the shoulder until he hit the first cyclist, and couldn't react in time to avoid the second one.
