Fifty Plus (50+) - Father-in-law passed today
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
My father-in-law passed away today. He was a full professor at Bloomsburg University in PA for over 30 years. He's a large part of the reason I went to graduate school. When I started dating my wife, he asked that I read his dissertation. I did and was very impressed. He said to me, “You marry my daughter, you damn well better be the best you can be, and you’re easily capable of doing this kind of work.” My wife has never known about this conversation. I think I probably ought to tell her. Whenever he talked about my “cycling addiction” (his words, not mine), he would say, “As long as you take care of your family, this isn’t a bad vice to have.”

Sounds like a very interesting guy who most likely has left a lot of memories and stories in his wake. Sorry for your loss and glad you had the chance to know him.
Very sorry for your loss. It always hard to lose a parent or in-law but easy to remember them for who and what they were.
My thoughts are with you. It sounds like you had a very good relationship with him.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Sounds like you had a wonderful mentor, possibly a bit stern but with great powers of discernment. I hope his lessons will serve you well for the rest of your life.

My thoughts are with you and your wife. You had a great father-in-law, which was a blessing. I hardly knew mine before he died, and never knew my mother-in-law.

I don't think you need to tell your wife that conversation. I suspect it's already come out many times over in your life.

Sorry to hear of you and your wife's loss of her father. He must have been quite a man and father, even to you. I'd tell the wife of the conversation that made a difference in your and her life. Prayers for the repose of his soul and may God's light perpetual shine upon him.

Sorry for your loss. No matter how much we think we are prepared for the death of a family member, we are never really ready when the time comes. Remember the good deeds, the humorous stories and the times together. Blessings to you and your family.
Sorry for your wifes and your loss.
My condolences to his family and friends.
