3 months and 11kg down and I looked today and realized the "gut" I saw around my middle didn't actually contain all that much fat. Its mostly just excess skin. In fact, I seem to have a whole lot more skin that I really need. Any tips for getting it shrink? Losing more weight may just lead to even more excess skin.

You may find some improvement over time depending on your age, health habits (no smoking, avoiding sun), skin type.
This seems to be a problem with people who lose a large amount of weight rapidly.
Wear garments that support/compress it so it doesn't hang and stretch even more?
Exercising the underlying muscles may improve the overall appearance.
See a cosmetic surgeon if it causes you health issues or if you are willing to accept cost and possible side effects from surgery.
I've read of some new procedures but don't have any information to recommend one way or another.

The excess skin may mean that you still are a bit high on the body fat percentage as compared to lean body mass. Be sure that you are doing muscle building/maintaining exercises. I am plagued with the same problem and from what I read the most significant cause is that I still have too much body fat compared to muscle. I am working on building that muscle back, which should help.

Funny---I open this thread titled "excess skin" and for the first time in about a week, the Palmer Cash ad of that redhead in the open plaid shirt popped up on the right.
If you're middle aged, there's only so much that you'll be able to tighten loose folds of skin after a dramatic weight loss. Skin loses its elasticity with age.

Skin loses its elasticity with age.I'm 59, so I guess I'm pretty far into middle age. I've been up and down a number of times, even in middle age (post-40). It takes a while for the loose skin to tighten up, but if you can keep the weight off and continue exercising, it does tighten up.
I've lost 47 lbs since the beginning of the year, and I'm definitely a little "baggy" right now. But, even if it doesn't tighten up, I'd rather be thin, healthy and "baggy" than fat, unhealthy and whatever the opposite of baggy is. (Tight?)

Nearly $15K worth of plastic surgery did the trick for me. That was after losing 300 pounds though...
