Ouch!!!!
Closets call for me was about 6 months ago. Right after dusk a lady driving with her lights off almost took me out.

30 miles out when a group being led by a Coyote crossed in front of me somewhere near 48 heading to SPI. There was some yelling and chasing and me sprinting like a mofo.
Generally, "close calls" here don't count because they're too common to be seen as unique experiences. Welcome to riding in Northern Mexico.
Also, in before the "thread-thread" xplosions.

A while back, a chick ran a stop sign and I T-boned her. Bent fork, dislocated/permanently separated my shoulder, three cracked ribs, cracked helmet. **** sucked.

feb 2009. rear ended at night, hit and run, cuncussion and memory loss. for some reason I decided to wear a leather jacket that night and it saved my skin, literally! Lost my first road bike. Of course, I have had crashes since, but nothing remotely this bad - bike or body. No bones broke but I had some horrible bruising to my legs/feet and could not rest any weight on them for a month, my knees took even longer to fully recover. It is suspected that my bike and I were dragged about 20 feet

I got doored a few summers ago when I was first getting into cycling which destroyed my first bike. I made contact with not the outside, or the inside of the door, but the pointy, sharp, metallic middle. Missed cleaving my forehead and snapping my index finger by millimeters. Pretty stoked.
Also, got hit on the first day of classes this year on my way home from the grocery store. Partially my fault because I decided to salmon in the hopes of hitting the residential streets and taking the long way home instead of waiting a few minutes for traffic to subside so I could cross.
In short, tl ; dr, I was kinda stupid.

ugh. according to witnesses I was hit from behind by a sedan. I dont remember anything between just casually riding in the bike lane and waking up on the sidewalk with a stranger above me and feeling a lot of pain. I fractured my lower orbital under my eye, cracked my skull open and dislocated my shoulder as well as getting 4 stitches above my eye. my bike was wrecked and the driver drove off so i didnt even get any insurance.
ive been hit and in scraps since then, but nothing serious except for a black eye from getting punched by a driver. but then that was just stupid

Insanely close call for me. I t-boned a VW going 30 miles an hour. I slammed my brakes and braced for impact.
Flipped over the hood, legs hit the bars, landed on my head on the other side without a helmet.
After a few seconds of "WTF just happened," I got up, looked at my totaled bike, felt my bruised legs that I could barely walk on...
Since that day, helmet always, never bomb stop signs. I got a sweet colnago master x light out of the accident though :)

I got t-boned once by a car running a red light while I was on my way home from work. Hit and run. I went over the car, feet still in the toe clips, and hit the ground hard. Some bystanders helped me out, called the police, got me to a hospital where I found that (luckily) I had no serious injuries. Totaled the front end of my bike and bent the frame pretty good as well. Never got the driver's license plates or anything. No justice, but I was happy to be back in the saddle a week later. At the speed s/he was going I could've been killed.
Another time, a girl making an oncoming left turn didn't see me and I didn't have enough time to avoid a collision. The back end of that bike got run over, and that's how I ruined a Fuji Obey. The frame is still in my garage, rear triangle bent up. I've been meaning to get that frame to a mechanic to see if it's salvageable. Again, no injuries. I think I have a guardian angel.
And one time I got doored by an ambulance. That was just plain absurd.

I was making a right turn onto a parking lot, going about 20 miles per hour. A minivan makes the right turn as well, cutting really close to the curb. The minivan did not see me. I cut the corner as much as I could, hitting the slope of the driveway curb. I braced for impact, but I was about 2 inches from the side of the minivan. I rode off.

T-Boned a white truck. Going down a hill and car turns into me right in front of a driveway into a restaurant. I change direction into the driveway, can hear both my tubes pop as i hit the embankment, and then jump the curb and hit a truck parked at the stoplight. Went handlebar first so bike ok. Got a bruise on my left thigh, left an inch dent in his car though. Perpetrator drove off >:[ Nothing compared to your guys' stories, however.

here's a good one...
as i was leaving from the end of a group ride on my bike last summer i got t-boned by some dopey woman, who actually rode in it too, driving her suv out of the parking lot at the meet-up place. of course she had a phone stuck to her ear...

I got hit by a taxi that pulled into the bike lane to pick up passengers. Dude pulled away before I collected myself enough to realize I was more injured than I thought, or collect a license plate number. My collarbone also broke in multiple places, X-ray looked just like Jaytron's. It still sticks out all crazy-like.
Actually, had a wipe-out when the same thing happened a couple weeks ago - taxi pulled into the bike lane - but this time I slammed the front brake and went over the handlebars. Arms hurt from catching myself on the asphalt, but nothing broken.

Oh yea, I almost slammed into the side of a car when it decided to make a right turn in front of me without signaling. Scary sideways skid turn on wet pavement is scary.
And one time I T-boned another kid on a bike because he decided to veer across two lanes of traffic without looking behind him. Dumb kid is dumb.
And one time I rear-ended a lady in a Land Rover cuz... well, stoops yummygooey is stoops. She thought it was her fault though, so that was pretty funny.

These have been my closest calls. I vividly remember multiple times I have had to slam my brakes and scoot my stomach over the saddle to stop in time and not flip over the handle bar. it always happens when the road is totally empty

Close calls daily because no one on this campus knows how to drive. Realest ones yet were when some girl clipped my rear wheel after trying to stay behind me while I was in the bike lane, and then tried to get around and whip right into a parking lot without checking her mirrors. Another was when a couple guys drove back and forth down the same road and threw change at me three times. I tried to chase them after the last one, but they blew a stop sign and sped up before I could read their plate.

Nah. You will need to "caress" my clavicle to feel the bumps. ;)
My front tire got caught in small dip on the road. Flipped over and landed on my shoulder. Weirdly that's the only place with scratch. I was totally untouched other than that. I spent a week with nurses.
How long did it take to patch up for you, Jay?

ripped my ear off after hitting a trash can,
the long version
I woke up tied to a gurney with lots of people rushing around me yet again. I am maybe half lucid and mostly trying to figure out where am I. There is someone dressed in blue trying to push a business card into my restrained hand while talking gibberish to me. I don’t think he understands the concept of semi-conciuos yet. The card already has blood on it. I am going to assume it is mine. He tells me to call the number on it when I want my bicycle back.
I want my bicycle back now!
And then, like fingers snapping, my world is crystal clear, “ Where is my bicycle.?” Were the next twenty-five or so words out of my mouth. I had already gathered that I am not dead, all my limbs work, and I have all my teeth. Past that it everything is really just superficial. The important one question was, “Where is my bicycle.” Then the first dose of morphine fully kicked in. My world got really warm and fuzzy, and truthfully Curt Cobain could have handed my file to Elvis in medic uniforms, and I doubt I would have cared.
Fortunately I think we were only about five blocks away from the hospital considering the state of roads, and I was working not working very hard to stay awake. I am sure that made getting a history from me a challenge at best. Especially since my bracelet had the wrong last name on it when I did wake up the next day. Luckily they have a pretty extensive record on me already at that hospital, and it is getting depressing how many people their have heard of, or about me in that emergency room already.
I made it a point to stay on the max morphine dose they would give me the entire time I was in the hospital. From what I gathered my glasses cut my face up upon their exit, and somehow I managed to almost rip my right ear off and went all the way through the ear canal. Which means I get to wear a cotton ball in it all week, in an effort it doesn’t collapse on its self.
I still haven’t answered the important question. “Where is my bicycle.”

Last November I had a bought of stupidity and ran headfirst into the back of a parked van. This happened to the bike:
247864
This happened to my face (http://i.imgur.com/THGqg.jpg). And the next day (much like the Grinch's heart) it grew 3 sizes (http://i.imgur.com/EaWKm.jpg). 12 stitches, slightly chipped two teeth, and I probably broke my nose. My stem had a hex bolt and that's the first thing my chin hit. Somehow, that wheelset survived with only a small hop on the front. My knee took a while to heal properly, but no lasting injuries. Worst part is the Raleigh was my dad's in college and that frame is toast. I loved that bike.

10 broken bones (including my right shoulder in four places), two month unpaid vacation from work because I could not drive.
The front tire had punctures from the chainring. The bright side is that it was a cheap 1980s Trek hybrid, not my Serotta. Why I took the Trek that day, I don't know.

Yeah, I'm confused. Turning on a yellow is perfectly legal, regardless of whether she was suppose to be on the road or not... get a ****ing brake and stop trying to bomb through red lights.

If a car comes up along side you and half-passes you and then turns right suddenly, its the cars fault. If you are trying to get through a yellow light and a car decides it can turn onto your road at the last second, it is the cars fault. It wasn't necessarily Kyle's fault.
But when it comes to cars and bikes, it doesn't matter who is at fault, the guy on the bike loses. Get a brake.
I was once stopped at a stop sign. I'd been having trouble with my pedals and so both my feet were unclipped and I was looking down at them. A car comes up along side me and turns right ... over my front wheel. I didn't move at all but the bike was suddenly laying between my legs and the front wheel was crushed. The car didn't stop.
I also got my tibia broken as I was riding through a four way-stop. I had just stopped and was barely getting up to speed. The car only decided at the last second that maybe the stop sign applied to him and that even if it didn't it might mess up his car to run over a cyclist at full speed.

let me clarify, she was making an oncoming left, i was going south bound, and she was heading northbound, turning to go westbound
wasn't bombing or anything, just on my way to school going around 15-20mph, light just turned yellow, and i entered the intersection, and the lady gasses it and ends up cutting me off so i ended up t-boning the car.

I'm still looking forward to the "I ride responsibly and practice my bike handling skills on a regular basis so haven't crashed in decades thread" thread. I realize that sort of thing isn't "cool" these days and would probably be considered elitist and snobby, but I still would prefer it to these "Hey look I suck but it wasn't my fault" threads...
