which do you folk think is the better of these tires.
marathon plusor marathon supream (600)

at the moment i have the PLUS on the rear wheel and the supream is a spare.
what i dont like about the PLUS its heavy and not grippy enough on wet roads IMHO.
the supream is much lighter faster tire but the side wall are crap reason why i have a spare supream i did have a pair until i got a nice 3inch rip in sidewall after only a couple hundred miles.
so anyway are many of you lot touring on supream tires and whats your honest oponion on them.

Supreme sidewalls aren't crap, heavy overbuilt Plus tread is crap.

I'd be interested in knowing how ANYONE managed to get a 3 in tear in the sidewall of ANY tire, but a Schwalbe Marathon Supreme i
n particular since the sidewall is pretty much protected by the wraparound tread area which for puncture protection uses a material thats three times as strong as kevlar.

You were crossing a mine-field perhaps?

I've burst sidewalls on old 27" tyres that had been sitting around too long. And on a cheap 22" tyre that was left in the sun (oops).
Never ripped a Marathon. I'm using Marathon Pluses, and had the ATB variant previously; I agree about the grip, but haven't really had much experience with other long-life tyres. The ATBs were a bit dodgy around corners on sealed surfaces, not confidence inspiring.
I could never justify to myself the price of the top-tier Schwalbes, so can't comment on those. Oh: my friend got 28 (twenty eight) punctures in one afternoon in a particular region of Kazakhstan thanks to some type of super-thorn, using Extremes or some such. Anything can be punctured!
