Advocacy & Safety - tactics for change

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
in order to increase safety on the roads, malicious and simply bad drivers need to be flagged. we should open a thread to post the license plate numbers of offenders. this would make it much easier to find repeat offenders and to really make a case against a particular driver if needed. remember to list the state as well as the number.
i volunteer this thread for this purpose and i'll start with:
california: YSG ODOC
i think that will be lots of work because there are people from all over the world here from all different sized cities...a good idea for within our own communities, though. if you guys try it good luck!
How much work would it be? I am not a computer geek, so I would really like to know. It seems a sticky might do the trick and leave little or no serious maintaining on the mod's part. Or am I mistaken? Maybe setting up the search criteria might be problematic? I just do not have a clue. What would be the problems here?
But if it is done, I think the license number, the date, and location might be what should be recorded.

What could it hurt?

How about a national "Hostile to Cyclists" registy?
There could be categories for Honkers, Screamers, Throwers, and Rammers. Just provide a place for a license number and car/driver description. Anyone else think this could work or have ideas on how to implement?

Eh, "he said, she said"
best thing to do is when youknow they tryed to make u go off the road throw stones at them lol
Eh, "he said, she said"
But if enough he saids were cataloged against what she said, or vice a versa, a pattern could be established and possibly help when it was important.

I dunno that a thread would be of much use 'cause it'd be too hard to manage, but a dedicated website with search capabilities could be useful...

What are you going to do? Track them down with your bicycle ninja posse and key their car in the middle of the night?

Exactly....too many wannabe vigilantes around. That was why when I got threatened a while ago, I refused to post the plate, and instead opted to describe the car as accurately as I could, along with place and time.
Let police reports be proof that they have no respect for alternate transit on the road, not a bunch of people on an online forum going by pseudonames.
Let's get real. Assume there are 200 million drivers in the U.S. alone. Assume that 0.1% are cycle-hostile. That is 200,000 drivers. What list or thread will hold all those names? What will we do with this data if it is magically gathered? This modest proposal reminds me of the lists of sex offenders, shich also seem to have had little benefit in the real world. Try not to get too freaked out by drivers who yell or gesture. If they deliberately try to injure you, get their license number and involve the law. If you suffer damages, sue the bastards.
